Welcome millions upon millions of millions of faithful podcast listeners. We are your hosts, Jason Kimber and Dave Simmons. We'll bring you along with us as we share life stories from our experiences living in small towns, or in Jason's case, an unincorporated community.
SPEAKER_01That's true. Along with genius suggestions for solving world problems and a whole lot of laughs. This is the Small Towns Podcast. Welcome in once again, everyone out there in the entire world of the whole world wide web. This is Dave Simmons along with Jason Kimber on the Small Towns podcast. Jason, are you prepared for for this episode?
SPEAKER_00Buddy, I am always prepared. I could not be any more prepared than I am in this moment right now.
SPEAKER_01Which is non-prepared at all. Again, we've talked about how there's little, very little preparation.
SPEAKER_00Very little preparation. No really, no research, no uh this is this is the definition of shooting from the hip for me.
SPEAKER_01Well, we I think there's something to that as far as you there are times when Jason says, I think I got something, a fun idea or something, but he doesn't tell me about them. Right. Because we need to we want I want the genuine reaction from you if I say something and vice versa. So I I oh I hope that our listeners actually can see that or hear that through what what we're putting out there.
SPEAKER_00I think they can, and even uh uh not to crack myself up here, but sometimes we'll be talking about things and then a story or a saying or something will come to my mind and we'll just pop it out. And so it's like it's it's very random. I mean, we usually have a topic and we have a topic um today. Are you prepared, my friend?
SPEAKER_01Always prepared, because a scout is always prepared. Buddy, are you a scout? I'm a Boy Scout. Of course you are. I wasn't a very good Boy Scout. Okay. I mean, we really need to dive into Boy Scouts. Because it's uh I think there's some scouting experiences that just have to get out there, and I think that a lot of the people listening are gonna have memories come back like similar.
SPEAKER_00For sure. Now listen, I don't want to interrupt you in any way, shape, or form. Well because sometimes you have to, but because you are a genius when it comes to these pods, but we do need to just do one shout out uh for our giveaway. Oh, some housekeeping. Housekeeping, yeah, exactly. Because some housekeeping items kind of button things up. You'll remember um from our last pod, I think it was our anniversary pod.
SPEAKER_01Yep, should be re should have been released on March 17th.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yep, because that's that's the anniversary, one year anniversary, St. Patty's Day. Um, and we we talked about giving. You remember Susie and Heather, of course you remember. Of course I do. I was here. And uh Susie had the genius idea of giving two Stanley mugs away.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, apparently she went out and spent all of her hard-earned money on Stanley mugs, but we're just gonna give them away.
SPEAKER_00Well, well, we're gonna give them away, but you can see that Dave is uh kind of attached to these mugs, so they're gonna be slightly used. They're not used to it. They won't be the brand new. It's a very high-quality item.
SPEAKER_01High quality. I wish I knew the color. She said that they're interesting colors. Uh in my mind, I think we should be putting like a small towns decal on it. Yeah, we should. So that when people say, Hey, where'd you get that? and people will say, Small towns podcast. Because, and we need to do hashtag something. I don't understand.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think what we do, first of all, I'm gonna check into this vinyl sticker thing because I'd like to slap one of those on there. I would like to too. You know what I mean? Fantastic. Yeah, why not?
SPEAKER_01We need merch. We need merch. My kids tried to make t-shirts online when we first started this pod with some merch, but it fizzled out and seems like a lot of work.
SPEAKER_00It's it's gonna uh it'll happen. It'll happen. But the housekeeping of it, and you are right, Dave, uh, we need a we need a hashtag, and the hashtag that you and I have come up with is hashtag smalltowns with an S at the end of that towns. Yeah. Hashtag small towns. So I I mean I think we just need to kind of pull back the curtain a little bit. You and I don't really know a whole lot about social media and how these giveaways work, but we do need hashtag small towns. We do we do need you to like both our Facebook and our Instagram pages. We'd like you to subscribe. This seems like a lot of work.
SPEAKER_01But if everybody a job exactly, subscribe. Can they just do one of them? Or do they just do all of them? Well, I mean I mean, if we're giving away a Stanley mug, isn't it like aren't they each like 40 bucks?
SPEAKER_00At least. I I mean, well, I don't I say at least, I don't know, probably just 40 bucks.
SPEAKER_01All I know is Susie went and bought them, and I'm like, well, how much did you spend on that? Don't worry about it, she said.
SPEAKER_00Uh now Susie will enough. Can we can we verify that they're Stanley? Or would it be like would it be like Stanley? Yeah, kind of a knockoff.
SPEAKER_01No, there's certain things they're real susie will not stand for the second rate on certain things.
SPEAKER_00Bravo.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we're not getting we're not getting anything besides craft macaroni and cheese.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm with her on that.
SPEAKER_01Or craft singles. You can't get just those weird singles. Those are gross. They're all kind of gross. But Susie makes a mean grilled cheese out of those craft singles. I don't know what she's doing, but they're delicious.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I'm not gonna judge her. And and this will be definitely one of those situations where we've got the original, it's legitimate Stanley Mug. I mean, I've got a couple, I love them. I use it every day.
SPEAKER_01Right, but will I buy Ulu's instead of Lulu's? Yes. Yes, I will. Because they look just the same, they feel just the same. How much? 40 bucks.
SPEAKER_00You and I we couldn't be further away on that. But we could not be any further away on this issue.
SPEAKER_01I mean, if we were the same size, I would say try on my pants.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I couldn't even fit one of my thighs.
SPEAKER_01I'm telling you, they're fantastic work pants.
SPEAKER_00Well, you look great. Well. You look great. All right, I just looked. I'm not doing lunges or anything. Okay. But again, March 31st, we're giving away swag, which in this case the swag is two beautiful Stanley Bucks.
SPEAKER_01And we're giving one to whoever on Facebook and one to whoever from Instagram. Instagram.
SPEAKER_00Spoiler alert, um, and we would really encourage a lot of subscribes. Subscribes, subscribers. I don't know. I don't know, to wherever you listen to these podcasts, whatever platform you enjoy. Um, we have probably more followers on Facebook than we do Instagram, so the odds could be I I don't know. May the odds be forever in your favor. In your favor.
SPEAKER_01I don't really know how it works, actually. I think we just leave it up to Suze because I think anybody that knows her realizes she's a very honest woman. Oh, yeah. We'll leave it up to her and Heather.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, this is gonna be this is gonna be top shelf type of stuff. I'm not worried about it. Yeah, this is gonna be legit, and the winners will be will be pulled just randomly. I feel like I kind of want to put a disclosure on there. Uh, friends and family of Jason and Dave Simmons are ineligible. No way, I put their own name in there.
SPEAKER_01Go and buy your own dang Stanley book.
SPEAKER_00What if we put our own debut there that we draw on air? Oh, look, Jason Camper, Dave Simmons.
SPEAKER_02What are the odds?
SPEAKER_00I just had mine typed or taped to the side.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, um, yeah, we're gonna have two lucky listeners that are winners, and we appreciate everybody listening for these this last year. It's been quite a ride. It's been super fun, it's been super fun. But let's circle back. Well, when we're doing that on the 31st. Yes. And so, and then we'll just let that individual know through Facebook and uh the social media channel, okay? And then by the time we release our next pod after that, we'll mention who won.
SPEAKER_00We'll mention who won, but you'll already know already on March 31st, yeah. Absolutely. And then we're we're gonna get that to you uh uh in any way, shape, or form. I mean, I we've got uh if we look at the statistics, Dave, we have got listeners across the globe. Yes, we do. So we may be shipping this to Brazil, we may be shipping this to Bulgaria, Canada.
SPEAKER_01My friends in Bulgaria, I don't think they're gonna be understanding much of this pod.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01We go quick, and if it's not your first language, you might because I'm not even sure Mitch Oviat up in Canada is understanding half of it.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, Mitch. Sorry, eh? Sorry, eh? Remember that great poll we shared about uh Shell Silverstein with the Canadians to hell or to jail or to Canada. We love the Canadians. Yes, we do. We love them, our neighbors to the north.
SPEAKER_01And they gave us Celine Dion. So you know what?
SPEAKER_00And for that on the She's indomitable. Yes, thank you, Canada.
SPEAKER_01She's at a K9A in treasure, we've said it for years. Um are you loyal? Do you know the scout? I don't even know which is that the scout law or the oath.
SPEAKER_00A scout is trustworthy. Bray. Let me can I just try? Well, yeah, but I mean you gotta find it because I don't think you know it from memory either, do you?
SPEAKER_01Um yeah, I got it. You got it? Okay, what are you doing right now? Like, are you doing the law or the oath? Oh. And right now you're thinking, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I don't know which one is which. I'm gonna start and then you tell me which one it is to give me a little bit of this guy is trustworthy, brave, this that will be kind.
SPEAKER_01Um I think that is something for the law. The law start on my honor.
SPEAKER_00I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country to help other people and to obey the law of the pack. I feel it's Cub Scouts. Yeah, I don't I don't I don't I don't really know.
SPEAKER_01Remember when we said we don't really prepare? We should probably have prepared for this.
SPEAKER_00Maybe just a little bit. That might have been Cub Scouts.
SPEAKER_01A scout motto. How about that? Let's see if I can get that.
SPEAKER_00Be prepared, though. Isn't that the prepared? I think so. Then you get the law and the oath, and there is a scout is trustworthy, kind.
SPEAKER_01Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. So a few of those I know for a fact you're out. Yeah, exactly. I mean, reverent, out. A scout is trust. We're gonna try to find this.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, although I think we nailed it. I think we did too. But I don't know if that's the law or the oath. And I'm here to tell you there are Eagle Scouts in our audience that are just screaming in their cars right now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but I and the last thing I want is to like I have no issue, I don't have any problems with scouting. Oh no, I love scouting. I think it's great for there's there's a lot of young men that it has been an awesome experience for them.
SPEAKER_00And possibly a lifesaver. I mean, literally, like so, yeah, that's a good clarification, Dave, because we are gonna talk about scouting today, but but in no way, shape, form, put in whatever words you need to there. We're not making fun. Yeah. We're we're definitely gonna. I think you should make fun of me as we talk about my efforts in scouting. Yes. And I will. Yeah, for you, and you should. Okay. And there's a f there's a few that I'll probably poke at you. Yes, you should. But let's uh, although you're gonna have way more room in this than I am, because let's just be honest. We have two pictures here.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna show you this picture right now. Yeah, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_00You need to make sure you drop that on the gram. I am gonna put this on the gram. In fact, I'll put it on there just I'll put it on the day that we we uh we dropped this thing because first of all, that's a very good head of hair.
SPEAKER_01Yes, we it's like coming out further on one side than the other. It is, it is, but I think that's a style. I mean, that's luxurious. Luxurious could have been done with a blow dryer. I'm not even sure.
SPEAKER_00I'm for sure that's a blowout. Yeah, it's for sure that's a blowout.
SPEAKER_01There's gotta be some conditioner. There's something going on.
SPEAKER_00I'm guessing 92, 93 somewhere in there. Yes, I'd say that. But um, I see a lot of merit badges on the old bandalau. Well, not as yeah, I think it's a bandalow. I think it's a bandalau.
SPEAKER_01Not as many merit badges. That's the minimum amount of merit badges to get the hardware you see on my chest right there.
SPEAKER_00Because I do see out there on your on your left side is uh your left. It's an eagle! Left breast is the eagle. It's an eagle. I earned okay those those I didn't mean to say earned. I was awarded the eagle. You were awarded the eagle, your mom earned it, it was awarded to you.
SPEAKER_01Well, she yeah. I don't even know if she earned some of those badges. No. Because I think, well, Jason, you were part of. Hey, first of all, does my voice sound a little raspier today? Like a little bit baritone? Yeah, I mean, are you uh I've been yelling at oh I've been coaching three basketball games this morning.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I was gonna say you just came from a game, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you just have to have to yell. You do.
SPEAKER_00Thank goodness for your Stanley mug, you can keep that that throat lubricated.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I will, and I will. But you know, I would think that those kids could have earned a couple merit badges from just playing in those games today.
SPEAKER_00Um I I don't want to interrupt you, Dave, but um, if we're look at my picture, and I've I've said this to you before, I will also post it. It's not a picture of me, it's just simply a picture of my bandal. Bandalow? Is that are we sure about that? I think you're right. I think it's a bandal. I think it is too much stick with it. Um I have a total of six. Okay, that would what did that get you? Tenderfoot? I think as far as what's uh what's the order? Um Cub Scouts, we're gonna skip that. We're gonna go Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle. Yeah. So I wanna say that I was to first class, but I think you have to have more than six merit badges. I think so too. But I mean that's only the second left so tenderfoot, second class, first class. I think I completed second class. Obviously, the picture that you're gonna that you have seen and the world we'll see shortly only has six of those badges, but I think my mom probably was like, you know what? Yeah, he's not gonna really finish this. So I'm just gonna sew on these first six.
SPEAKER_01Well, I think we got to the point when my boys first started doing it too, which it didn't go very far, but Susie was just hot gluing them on there. It's not a bad idea. No, I mean, especially if you make a mistake, you've sewn them on, that's not easy to get them off.
SPEAKER_00And I always wanted to be an eagle, and we had a great scouting program out to GrouseCrick. It was I had a wonderful leader, he's no longer with us, dang it. Um, but but I had a good experience, we did a lot of camping, we had a lot of fun, and for some reason, and I think it may be uh, you know, if you've if you've known the history of this pod, like, you know, I went K through 9 through at Grouse Creek school, and then I moved to Malta, Idaho to go to Raftor High School to finish up my high school years. So at that point, I think kind of the I dropped a ball when it came to finishing my merit badges. So I am not an eagle. Now, I have through probably um nefarious ways sought to become an eagle.
SPEAKER_01Nefarious way? Nefarious ways. Yeah, I was talking about. Are you still working on merit badges at this age?
SPEAKER_00I you know, I don't think you can, but I remember talking to a group of people, we were talking about merit badges, and uh the actual purchasing of a merit badge I think can be expensive. Uh I mean they can be, and particularly if you've got a lot of boys that are in the group. So we were kind of joking around a little bit about it, and and somebody thought, well, I wonder if we could kind of recycle these merit badges. Like, you know, maybe your kids could use my, you know, something we just we're we were just spitballing.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00And I thought, and the gentleman I was talking to, his name was also Jason, and I said, Hey Jason, what would it set me back to just get an eagle? Like I just buy, I just want to get up into that nest.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, an eagle's nest is a pretty prestigious place to be. It is, and uh, you don't you don't get there in those nefarious ways.
SPEAKER_00You know, and you you earn your way to the nest, and uh and you're better off because of it, Dave. You have more skills. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01That's the funniest thing to me is because you would think that I I earned this okay, I gotta stop saying earned. I was awarded this this Eagle Scout. I am the last guy that you expect is gonna go camping. Right, that's true. I'm the last guy that would even build a fire. Uh well. But you could. I've seen you build a fire. Yeah, but some of them before you get there, we sometimes in the summertime we do fire and have some s'mores and stuff. Yeah, I'm gonna take me two or three tries to get that thing to be actual fire.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I probably am not gonna be able to build it without a little bit of what we call Boy Scout juice.
SPEAKER_01What's that?
SPEAKER_00That's gasoline. Okay.
SPEAKER_01That's probably for the best. Um, yeah, so I'm not by any means what I would consider somebody worthy of an Eagle Scout. Okay. I feel like I should give it back. Do you can you give them back? No, I'm not gonna go. You're like, I don't feel good about this. There's no way, I mean, here's the picture that we have here of me. Yes. I I went through and tried to identify what merit badges I'm seeing there.
SPEAKER_00Now, to your credit, you have the eagle, and people are gonna comment on this when they see this picture. I feel like maybe your bandalow is like I know it's not on correctly. Like it's I feel like you've got more merit badges that are on your back.
SPEAKER_01Right. I wish I would have shown more of them. That's okay. Because I have to, I mean, I don't see the camping merit badge on that bandal, but you have to get those other requirements.
SPEAKER_00And those things I've seen them with an eagle, they're full.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, there's some kids that that I mean, man, they they might have two bandalos full of those things. They just they just go crazy.
SPEAKER_00You wear them crisscrossed like they would, like, you know, like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, that is there's a lot of things that kids can do to get but I mean seriously. Which ones did you get? Well, we can go through that, but yeah, I I'm curious because you you were in a position at one point that you had to like sign off, right? Oh, that's right. Yeah, so because you have to you can't just go down to the scout office and say, you know what? Give me that merit badge, give me that merit badge. You have to sign a card.
SPEAKER_00I'll take one American Heritage, American labor, throw in an architecture for good measure. That's right. No, I'm glad you mentioned that, Dave, because this has been years ago. In fact, probably even before you and I knew each other years ago, but I was a merit badge counselor, just a temporary one, but I was uh a merit badge counselor for the personal finance.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so like in a church type of environment.
SPEAKER_00And you weren't like a counselor at a camp. No, no, no, no, no. Just they would they would have these activities. Well, even you didn't have to have the activity. I think in the scouting program, if you want to get, say, the personal finance merit badge, there's somebody, uh typically an adult, who will help guide you through that, lead you through the uh the qualification requirements, thank you. My my words left me, in order to get that. And I remember that one required that you um create a budget and stick to it, and then you had to come back, show the budget.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so you were the counselor or the person to go to for a particular finance one. Just personal finance. Which was the worst one, by the way. Because it took like months. You had to like keep a log of your expenditures. Exactly. And I'm like, I spent I don't have any money, I have nothing coming in. So so you want me to keep track of what I've spent of my parents? Exactly. That seems fair. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh probably do it up. Yeah. And so I remember having this experience where uh I met with a young man and got him going, and then like seriously, six weeks later, we met again, and I said, Oh, let me see your budget. Yeah. And he's like, I left it at home. I said, Oh. Well, oh, well, let either go get it or maybe when we meet next time you can bring it, but I gotta see it. And he's like, just sign the card.
SPEAKER_01Was it him that said sign the card? Or was it the card?
SPEAKER_00It's it it works from that. Like he said it, and then his dad came over and said, Hey, I've seen it. Just sign the card. Just sign the card.
SPEAKER_01Just sign the danger.
SPEAKER_00Just sign the card. And so, of course, I just sign the card.
SPEAKER_01So he might not have gotten it. Well, his dad said he did, so I'm sure he did. I would say he did too, but I'm telling you right now, yes, I did not camp enough times to justify the camping merit badge.
SPEAKER_00So, did you just go up to your counselor? I don't know, Margo. All I know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, all I know is somebody signed a card, and I got it. I mean, that's that's why I feel a little bit bad about it. Well, I mean I mean, I know I slept on the trampoline in my backyard. Well, that's kinda that's basically. And I don't even know if I made it overnight. I have the electric blanket strung out there with an extension cord, and I saw some rain and come in our way, and I'm like, well, I could be fried. Yeah. Don't that's not pigs in a blanket.
SPEAKER_00You would not get the electrician marriage for sure.
SPEAKER_01No, you wouldn't. I mean, there's some of these, I think for some of them, like electrician. Yeah. I think what you do, you get a kite with a key. And you tie a string to the string to the key and you let it go up. Yeah, that seems done.
SPEAKER_00Sign the card. Just sign the card. I know. It's fine. But as I it's funny you should say that, because I have a list of the merit badges here up online, and I see the picture, the image for the electricity merit badge, and it looks violent. It's like, it's like a it's it's uh if I and I don't I assume this is relatively new because I just pulled it up uh the other day, it's got a fist holding two lightning bolts. Reminds me of more like a Thor than a badge. Sounds like more of a uh superhero marathon. Superhero, but apparently it's um electricity. So you maybe would have maybe you did two and one stone, uh, you know, two badges, one experience, got electrocuted with your electric blanket, encamped.
SPEAKER_01You know what I have on my bandal on mine? Plumbing.
SPEAKER_00Okay, here's the thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Tell me, I mean, are you how adept are you at plumbing? I'm not a plumber. Here's here's how I think you get the card. Okay. First of all, you eat a really, really big dinner. Preferably something that maybe your body doesn't handle.
SPEAKER_00Maybe something from Taco Bell.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, something that's really gonna work through you.
SPEAKER_00Facts. Side note, that's the only place you can get gas for under a dollar these days. Taco Bell.
SPEAKER_01That's very that's a very timely joke, right? Yes, it is. They do have a dollar menu. Yeah, you just go to Taco Bell, you wait it out for six, eight hours, you then on the side of that toilet, you just touch the button, done, plumbing.
SPEAKER_00And then you destroy the plumbing, you just try to sign the card.
SPEAKER_01I have a friend that is a plumber, and the other day, and he has actually caused me some issues in my marriage. Oh, because he has told he has told my wife nothing should go down the disposal. Well, then why do we have a disposal then?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I listen. I should be able to put eggs. Shells down there. Yeah, for sure you can. I would make an assumption uh this gentleman probably doesn't have his plumbing merit badge.
SPEAKER_01He's an actual plumber. If he doesn't have the merit badge, he should have it. I'll give him mine. I should just give him mine.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01I talked to him the other day. Yeah. I ran into him. I'm like, hey, wait, I need you to tell Susie that it's okay to put like eggshells. Yes. And he looked at me and he's like, no. I'm like, what do you mean? It's a disposal. What's it for then? What is it for?
SPEAKER_00That's what I'm asking. Let me tell you what it's not for. I've told you this before, but one time uh when I was an intern in Washington, DC, um, I had never been around a disposal. And I actually uh bought a package of chicken breasts. I think there were four in the pack. I opened it up and they were already bad. I was like, oh, this is so stinky. I gotta get rid of these. So I opted to just feed them one by one down the disposal. Did it that's the gift that keeps on giving us?
SPEAKER_01Oh, we came back from work the next day and opened up the door, and the whole apartment was just permeated with a rank odor that my buddy Wayne has got his hand on his forehead right now saying, What have you done?
SPEAKER_00And I met Wayne, he's the nicest guy.
SPEAKER_01He's the greatest guy you've ever met.
SPEAKER_00He's so nice.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, he says you can't really put anything down the disposal. No, and apparently, but Jason, can I ask you this? If you say, Oh, we're walking on eggshells around so-and-so, what does that mean? They're delicate, they're fragile. Yeah, so can't I put that down a disposal? I put two down the disposal this morning. Just this morning. Oh, and then they go, hey, and if it's stinky, put maybe like a wedge of uh lemon or an orange or something down there. Okay, wait. You can put that down there, but you can't put eggshells down there.
SPEAKER_00Those eggshells, uh, apparently they'll just get all bound up in there, tighter than tight, tighter than a balloon.
SPEAKER_01All I know is there's plenty of things that you should be able to put down there. Like like Lipton rice. Down the disposal, right?
SPEAKER_00Easy. My uh oldest, she made a box of macaroni and cheese the other day, which again is delicious. Uh she only ate a small portion of it, and then I said to her, I said, Kennedy, you gotta put that in the fridge. Well, she forgot. So I just actually put the whole, which is probably three-quarters of the box, right down the disposal.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's why we have it.
SPEAKER_00Um I uh so I got six merit badges, and you'll see that in my picture. I got citizenship in the community. That was a required one. Citizenship in the nation. Required, citizenship in the world, required, and then I got first aid, also required? I don't know. Uh what do you need for okay, go ahead. I got first aid home repairs and metal work.
SPEAKER_01Okay, you're not repairing anything around here. No, I'm not. And and I think your your your first aid prowess is probably a band-aid. Yeah, yeah. Are you gonna like suture anything? Well, I mean what are the I mean, what are the requirements of first aid? I never I didn't know.
SPEAKER_00And that one was I learned C PR, I do know that. Well, and the Heimlich, and I could band, like I could wrap an ace bandage around your head. Well, okay. And then I'm pretty sure the home repairs and the metal work, uh I don't remember this exactly, but I bet my dad was the counselor on those two. Just sign the card. So my dad sign the card.
SPEAKER_01Just sign the card. Sign the card. I mean, I looked down through all these and I'm like, well, you could sign the card for that. I I know how to do that.
SPEAKER_00You know which one that you and I, and like there's not a chance you got this one, and if you did, you gotta give it back.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Animal science.
SPEAKER_01No, I didn't get it.
SPEAKER_00Because I don't think I got that one. No, I mean, even our pods, we've been called on this. We've been fact-checked. We don't know what mutton is. Yeah. We're not quite sure how rodeos work. No.
SPEAKER_01I mean, if I got it, you're right. I need to give it back. Animal science, no. I should give that back if I got it. Did you get the life-saving merit badge?
SPEAKER_00No, I mean, I saved life via first aid. But I there's a there's a separate one?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's a life-saving merit badge. And it's it's it it's uh takes part in the pool. Oh, really? It's a swimming one.
SPEAKER_00How does that even be?
SPEAKER_01Well, let me tell you how it works.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01I remember this vividly to all of our listeners from Cash Valley. I was at the municipal. Okay, and well, here's what you gotta do. One of the requirements is you've got to jump in the pool fully clothed. Okay. Now to save. I think you're saving other lives and your own. So in this case, you're trying to create some sort of a buoyant. A buoy? Yeah. Okay. Out of your pants. Oh, yes, I've I tried this at a scout camp. Well, you better not have the skinny jeans on. No. You can't get those things off. I bet Lulu's would work fantastic. Maybe, but the Ulu's even better. All I know is I'm in this, in the Municipal, struggling for life. Sure. I mean, you and they have us in the Like you're not touching bottom. No. They have us in the in the diving pool. I hope we were having to avoid divers in there. They were on the high dive. So I'm in the Municipal, and they're like, okay, you gotta get those pants off. Mm-hmm. I would like to think we had our swimming suits on. I would think so. I hope so. Yeah, I appreciate that. Awkward for everybody. Yeah. So you gotta get those pants off, and then you've got to you you what you do is you pull them while you're in the water, you pull them over your head, and in and you're trying to create put air in them. Yes. And so you pull them over your head, you wrap them up nice and tight, and hopefully you've created a buoy.
SPEAKER_00You have to like tie the legs off or something? I think you tie the legs.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And then you go the waist, you're holding the waist over your head, slap it down, put it to catch some air.
SPEAKER_00Did you save a life that day?
SPEAKER_01Just my own. I am here, that's all I got. And then you gotta do other ones where you're like got your arm wrapped around somebody and down into through their arm and you're like dragging them out. But I'm thinking, if he's big and like I don't think I could save your life. You you dang well better try. I'll try, but you might you might take my life.
SPEAKER_00But think of the buoy you could make with my leaf eyes. I mean, listen, if if people of my size were on the Titanic, would not have a problem.
SPEAKER_01You're on the side, you're on the side on the I'm drowning of them. Jason! Throw me your pants!
SPEAKER_00I've got them all ballooned up nicely. You blow in the end of them.
SPEAKER_01They're really big in the canoe.
SPEAKER_00Um I um I did not again, I know I have more merit badges than the six that are shown in a picture. However, uh, we had a similar um type of merit badge. It was a canoeing merit badge. Oh, I had that. And did you have to swamp the canoe? Yes. And and then you It's a terrible thing. It's so terrible, and you fill full of water, and then you had to bring it back to shore full of water, and then you also had to get with a buddy and empty the canoe out whilst in the lake. Oh, I don't remember. We had to tip our canoe over our buddies to to get it, you know, unsubmerged, if you will, unswamped.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, I can't remember. I do remember having to swamp the canoe. I'm like, well, that's silly.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, why would I swamp a perfectly good canoe? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, um maybe they're like, well, you don't mean to swamp it in the first place. Well fair. I I don't know. That one I do remember having to swamp a canoe, and you're up in usually at a scout camp, and the water, they don't they don't preheat the the lake for you. I don't know if you knew that. So cold. The first time, the first time I heard the word hypothermia was at a scout camp. Fair. I learned it at scout camp because I re I specifically remember this little kid, and everybody's talking about how cold it was, and his little voice was, I think I got hypothermia. We had a couple kids in our little troop, they couldn't finish the swim check, it's just too dang cold.
SPEAKER_00I uh with the canoeing one, uh, we did that up at Camp Roach. It was up in Idaho, kind of uh I think the filer twin falls area where I put a camp up there, and you could see the bottom of the lake. It was so crystal clear blue, it was beautiful, but frigid cold. I mean frigid cold. But it's interesting, like you know, you've got canoeing, I think there's like a sailboating one, there's a moat there's a motorboating one. I mean, did you get your motorboating merit badge? Merit badge? No, no, no, no. I I don't even own a motorboat, but I I don't either. But that seems like that would be kind of a fun one to get.
SPEAKER_01It really would. Yeah. I think maybe it'd be kind of fun. Maybe work on that.
SPEAKER_00Um, and then again, I probably shouldn't say this, but I'm looking at some of these pictures and I see American cultures, and I feel like that probably needs an update.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I thought the same thing. There's a few of them in here. I'm like, I don't think you can say that. And I don't I don't think you can like print that. You can't do that one anymore. Maybe that would probably change that a little bit. Um there's uh gardening. Throw some seeds in the ground. Sign the card.
SPEAKER_00Sign the card. I mean, how hard can that be? Uh I assume for sure you got the athletic one. I did.
SPEAKER_01But but the funny thing is you got athletics, and then you also have like golf and basketball. You got all those.
SPEAKER_00You can get them all. I did not, uh, surprise, surprise, I did not get the athletics one. However, I feel like I should. I threw a ball with under your coaching over your tutelage. Yes, under your tutelage over Jenny and Cray's roof. So I should come to you and say, sign the card.
SPEAKER_01Sign the card. I'll sign the card. Sign the card. I mean, I got it. Yeah, we got movie making. I mean, I watch a lot of movies. I do too. Sign the card. Um music?
SPEAKER_00I'll sing for you right now. Sign the card. Sign the card. Sign the card. Um, I did wonder about this one. Did you get um the crime prevention one, or was that um revoked from you after your Logan High School experience?
SPEAKER_01McGruff the Climb Crime Dog didn't sign the card, so I couldn't do it. I did get the skating merit badge. That's the one where I had to shoot the duck. That's right, you shot the duck. I shot the duck, and I looked that up the other day. I'm like, I want to see if I actually did have to shoot the duck. And you really did. That's still to this day, you've got to shoot the duck. And there was another thing you had to do, and I had no idea what it even means. Okay. Um I I I can I can try to look at the. Yeah, but skating, and you can either get on roller skates or ice skates.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I feel like ice skates.
SPEAKER_01Inline skates, they'll let you do inline skating too.
SPEAKER_00Well, but back in back in the day for you and I, I mean, inline skates weren't a thing.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00You had the you had the four wheels. Um, while you're looking at that, there were a couple that I find actually very concerning, and I'm sure I'm just not getting the full depth and breadth of the requirements, but like, what? How do you get the dentistry merit badge? Oh do you gotta like fill a cavity? I think you brush your teeth. Brush your teeth. Sign the card.
SPEAKER_01I didn't do it twice today, so Oh man. Yeah, you gotta you gotta sign brush your teeth twice and try not to get a cavity. Sign the card. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But the problem is I love going to the dentist, and I actually like it when I get a cavity because I do like that. You like that funny gas, that nitrous. It's so I mean I enjoy it. So sometimes I'll take a chocolate chip and I'll just wedge it between two of my teeth, and I'll just leave it there for a couple of days.
SPEAKER_01Or just go in with that in there. Oh, you got something here. You know? Better give me the gas. Give me the gas. Give me the gas. Um it seems like a lot of these, I've just clicked on the skating merit badge. A lot of them they want you to know how to help when somebody gets hurt.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that's that's good to know.
SPEAKER_01Could you can't you just wrap that all into first aid?
SPEAKER_00You would think so. Um, did you I'm assuming the first aid wouldn't. Did you tell me that was a requirement? Yeah, that was.
SPEAKER_01For sure a requirement.
SPEAKER_00I remember going and actually going to a uh a a full day-long type of event where they taught us how to do um the Heim Lick and how to do CPR. They changed that now. Apparently, you don't actually I don't think you actually blow people's mouth. I don't think you do that anymore, do you?
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't know. I haven't had to save a life. If if but if I'm choking on a piece of steak, you don't you you can just get that right out, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm gonna come up and I'm gonna put I'm gonna lock my hands together. I can't remember how there's a way you lock them up. Yeah, you better know because I'm dying. Right below the sternum. I think. Right below surface. And I think, and then I'm just gonna start just gonna Well you're trying to be careful.
SPEAKER_01I feel like I've got a really my sternum. Is it delicate? Yeah, it's delicate.
SPEAKER_00But you gotta be careful, it could be delicate, but let's hopefully we don't have to do CPR because on CPR, on the compressions, I have heard, and again, listen, I think we know You're no doctor. I'm no doctor, although I play one on TV, but I have heard if you do CPR in the chest compressions correctly, you typically crack a rib. But you save a life.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's better than dying. Yeah, you save a life. Okay, Jason. Yeah, um, for ice skating merit badges, do the following. Okay. Give general safety and courtesy rules for ice skating. Courtesy rules. Courtesy rules.
SPEAKER_00Are there rules? On your left, on your right, I don't know. Maybe when you're going in a circle.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, come around. Discuss preparations that must be taken when skating outdoors on natural ice.
SPEAKER_00Oh, so that's different than being than skating on uh ice that's been kind of clear-cut with a Zamboni. I'm guessing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like you just walk a you like bear lake. Exactly. You probably could probably skate on that, but I don't know. But then it says explain how to make an ice rescue.
SPEAKER_00Oh, is that where you kind of like I don't want to be a part of it? I don't either. Well, I mean, listen, you would want to be part of it if you were getting the rescuing. True.
SPEAKER_01Just throw me your pants. Just throw me your pants, I'll turn it into a hot air balloon. Yeah, it's a polar plunge. I'm gonna be okay. Discuss the parts and functions of different types of ice skates.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_01Well I mean the blade. The blade.
SPEAKER_00The toe pick.
SPEAKER_01The toe pick. That's about it. Seems straightforward. There's more. Describe the proper way to carry ice skates. I think from the movies, you just tie them together and you put them around your neck. That's how you do it. You tie those laces together. Really? Throw them over your shoulder. Well, I don't know if it is, but that's the way I think of sign my card. Describe how to store ice skates for long periods of time, such as seasonal storage. Oh. You throw them in the f in the garage. Yeah, I just throw them in the bin in the garage. Yeah, sign the cards. We should be counselors for all of these. I know. I think people would be getting their merit badges very quickly. Yeah. Skate forward at least 40 feet and come to a complete stop. Use either a two-footed snowplow stop or a one-footed snowplow stop.
unknownWow, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Somebody's gonna have to explain that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't know. I mean, skiing, it's gotta be something similar, but I I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_01After skating forward, glide forward on two feet, then on one foot, first right, then left. I don't know. They lost me. Starting at a T position, stroke forward around the test area, avoiding the use of toe points if wearing figure skates. Okay, now here's where it gets hard. Okay. Glide backwards. Nope, can't do it. Yep, done. Don't sign that card. Yeah, don't sign it. I can't do it. Glide backward on two feet for at least two times the skater's height. Well, I could do it before you could do it. Skate backwards. Hope I'm a little guy when I have to do that. Skate backwards for at least 20 feet on two skates.
SPEAKER_00I don't need I mean, you'd have to have some coaching. I I guess this is where the counselor comes in. Well, who's gonna do it? Johnny Weir? I bad guy's busy enough as it is, but I bet he probably doing that hair alone's gonna take some time.
SPEAKER_01After gaining forward speed, glide forward on two feet, making a turn of 180 degrees around a cone, first to the right, then to the left. Perform forward crossovers in a figure eight pattern. Explain to your counselor the safety considerations for running or participating in an ice skating race. Explain to the counselor the safety considerations?
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_01Well, here's what I'm gonna do. Okay, counselor, here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna try not to hurt myself. I'm gonna go as fast as I can. And I'm gonna try not to chop my own finger off if I fall down with my skate with my skate.
SPEAKER_00That list of requirements, I feel like the next logical step would be and then enter the Winter Olympics.
SPEAKER_01Yes, exactly. Skate forward with smooth linked strokes on two feet or at least a hundred feet in both directions around the rink and demonstrate proper techniques for stopping. Who decides if it's smooth or not?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I think you'd know. You do? I think you'd know. I'd like to be the guy. Nope, not smooth enough. Smooth it up, buddy.
SPEAKER_01Smooth that one up. Where's the one that says something about Okay, okay. Perform a widespread eagle.
SPEAKER_00I don't even I mean, like on skis, I get that if you don't have a jump.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's doesn't say happen.
SPEAKER_00Perform a mohawk. I'm assuming, based on this, that neither you nor I got our ice skating.
SPEAKER_01I have it, it's on the picture. Yes, that's what I'm trying to say. What is this mohawk they speak of? Perform the mohawk. I don't even know if the mohawk is. Somebody signed the card.
SPEAKER_00Somebody signed the card.
SPEAKER_01I wonder. Perform a series of two consecutive spins on skates or hop, skip, and jump on skates. That's the triple Lutz. That's the triple LUTs.
SPEAKER_00You obviously got it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, here it is. Perform the limbo under a pole placed at least chest high or shoot the duck under the waist high pole and rise while still on one foot.
SPEAKER_00And you do you do you think you shot the duck? I shot the duck. Yeah. I remember at Merlin Olsen Park shooting the duck. I thought once you shoot the duck, then you just automatically sign the card.
SPEAKER_01Well, that must be what happened. When when my I think it was my oldest son was at It's hard to get to scout camps when you're involved in like competitive sports and stuff. But we ran up and were gonna be there for like I think an afternoon or a day. Something. It was a short amount of time. Somehow he knocked out like and maybe we were there two days, because I do think we slept over. Which is not a comfortable thing for me, by the way.
SPEAKER_00No, we don't we don't we don't camp.
SPEAKER_01I want to say he knocked out like 11 merit badges.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think they called those uh merit badge powwows or something. Jamborees. Jamborees, maybe? I don't know what they are. Anyways, but yeah, where you just go through and the the whole intent was to just chew through these. Yeah, and they did.
SPEAKER_01They just kept signing cards.
SPEAKER_00I mean signing the cards. Um, I did again, it's not on my bandalow, but I did get uh the uh Wilderness Survival merit badge.
SPEAKER_01Okay. How did you do that?
SPEAKER_00Okay, well I'll tell you. I'll tell you.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna look up Wilderness Survival and I'll ask you if you didn't know.
SPEAKER_00Please ask me a few questions. I'm ready, I'll just tell you. I mean, I'm sure it took several things, but it was myself, our scout master, uh Randy Kimber. Uh he and my dad first cousins. I mean, I know that you don't believe that I've cousins with all these people, but it's true.
SPEAKER_01He then he's your first cousin once.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And then some other scouts. Tom was with us, and Ryan was with us. I think it was just the three scouts. I mean, it's Grouse Creek, there's not a lot of people, but we had to go up, we went camping, we went up to Red Hill. It's an area there in the Grass Creek area. We had to build our own shelter to sleep over in. So no tents. Okay. We did have blankets and sleeping bags, but that's it. And then we had to, the food we had to prepare, it had to be utensiless cooking. So we had no Dutch ovens, we had no hot dog roasters, cooking on raw. Well, basically, and that's what I should have done. But in my mind, and it's no different today than it was then, Dave. I have a very overactive imagination. So I said to my mom, I says, Mom, I need to get myself a full chicken. A full chicken. Not a Cornish game man, I want the full chicken. Yeah. Well, you're gonna get hungry. And then I thought, I'm gonna, I'm going to construct a very complex and ornate spit roasting type of apparatus to roast this chicken over the open flame. On a spit. But guess what, buddy? I didn't know how to do that. I did not know how to do that. So my mom, because she was so wise, she's like, Jason, I love your creativity, I love your idea, and I hope it works. But just in case, I'm gonna go ahead and throw in a bag of Snickers and a bag of Reese's and some other candy. Some hot dogs you can put on a stick. Oh no, because I couldn't cook it, but you know, she's like, I don't want you starving. And I ate that night. So I think maybe I didn't get that, maybe that's why it's not on the bandal, but um the chicken did not work out. But some of my other buddies up there, yeah, they were like, you know, frying an egg on a hot rock. It worked well.
SPEAKER_01I'll just put that chicken down to disposal. You'll be fine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Okay, let me ask you this, Jason. Please, in order to get your um Wilderness Survival Merit Badge, I'd like you to discuss ways to avoid panic and maintain a high level of morale when lost, and explain why this is important. Go.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think the most important thing to do is you just you s you just you just run in one direction as fast as the sun. Because for sure, uh, when you're lost in the wilderness, it's easy to walk in a straight line. Sure it is. Just run as fast as you can. No, you scream very loudly. Once you calm down, I think. When do you scream? Uh I uh Kelly Glock said. Kelly Glocks. I don't know. Help me clear Kelly Glost.
SPEAKER_01Help me, Tom Kriegs.
SPEAKER_00Help me over with such a great movie. I know. Um, yeah, so I but I do think you gotta just remain calm, maybe take a couple of deep breaths, and stay put. Just wait for somebody to come and save you. See, I don't like the idea of waiting.
SPEAKER_01I'd like to be a little more proactive. Yeah, me too. What you do is you find a tauntaun and you cut it open and you sleep inside of it until for warmth.
SPEAKER_00For those of our listeners who are not as well versed in Star Wars. Yes, please explain what the tauntaun is.
SPEAKER_01I don't even know what it is. Some the knees go the other direction. It's very strange. Very stinky. Yeah, very, very stinky. Um okay. Do the following show five different ways to attract attention when lost.
SPEAKER_02Hey, look up here, look up here! Look up here, look up here, look up here. Hey you guys!
SPEAKER_01I'm just gonna take my shirt off and just see what happens. Demonstrate how to use a signal mirror. I mean, do you have a mirror just on you? I mean, if I guess if you were planning on being lost, it'd be wise to bring one. If you have a comb, maybe you have a mirror with you. That's true. Describe from memory five ground to air signals and tell them what they mean.
SPEAKER_00You know, I don't think I got this mirror badge. I think maybe I was working at it. Yeah, I think you might be. I mean, we started tell me there's something in there about utensiless cooking. Um I don't probably not.
SPEAKER_01Explain why it's usually why it is usually not wise to eat edible wild plants or wildlife in a wilderness survival situation.
SPEAKER_00Because you're gonna get a rash. You're gonna get a rash, and then you got no calamine lotion to put on it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's it's a it's a rough night.
SPEAKER_00I made my own shelter, Dave. I made it out of cattails and and the and the low boughs of a cedar tree. And I it's still I could take you to the place that you could still see remnants of my shelter.
SPEAKER_01I'd like to I'd like to see that because I guarantee you that it wasn't much of a shelter. Well, it was just enough for me that night.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it was tough. But it was cold, it was cold that night, so it did keep me warm.
SPEAKER_01Were you separated from the other individuals? Yeah. Because I think that was part of it. Like you had to be by yourself.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, in fact, we were all, I mean, we were within, you know, hollering distance, if you will. But um Hey! Hey, you okay over there? Look at me, look at me! How's that Snickers?
SPEAKER_01Oh, I don't have more Snickers. Like, I that wouldn't have been good for me as a young man. Like now I'm totally fine being alone for a while. In fact, I welcome it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But as a kid, I know I had what is now diagnosed as separation anxiety.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I get that.
SPEAKER_01Like, I I had a problem. Like it and I remember specifically trying to go to just an overnighter up at Bear Lake area.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Probably camp hunt. Isn't that what's up there?
SPEAKER_00I think so, yeah. I didn't make it. You didn't make it?
SPEAKER_01I had to come home that night. Okay. And I I was a mess.
SPEAKER_00I'm not gonna judge you because you can. No, I mean, because I too I remember not coming home from camps, but I remember going on a camp out with my buddy Britton one time, and oh my goodness, I got so homesick, I almost cried. Yeah, oh that's what happened to me. But I didn't have any how crazy is this, Dave. I don't know if I've ever told you this before. Um I think my dad my dad dropped us off, and then Britton's dad Barney picked us up, but they drove us, just he and I.
SPEAKER_01And how old do you think you were?
SPEAKER_00Um I was probably 12 and he was 14. And we drove up to a place called the basin, about 15 miles north of Grouse. And Barney just or dad just dropped us off, and we were camping there for three days and two nights by ourselves. No cell phone, no nothing. It rained one night, so we made we had a tent, so we just dug a ditch to you know divert the water. But like the morning of day three, buddy, I was like home sick. Well, I'm glad you made it three days. Oh gosh, I can't.
SPEAKER_01I didn't make it one night, probably a couple hours. I'm like, I gotta go home. So I went home. Um I remember right in the back of the van, whoever had the van, and there was no I was in the back, like the luggage park. Okay, yeah. Just sitting back there just sniffling the whole way home. My my I bet I got home and my dad was just shaking his head, like, seriously, son. And the same thing happened. I I was probably only 12 around there, and my parents signed me up for a BYU baseball camp. Okay. Jason, I it was a it was would have been probably a five-day camp.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I wept for the at least the first half of that camp. Oh, but the first two or three days.
SPEAKER_00But you stuck through it.
SPEAKER_01Well, and I remember being that back then we were staying in the dorms. I was downstairs in one of those BYU dorms on the phone, talking to my parents, come and get me, please. And they're like, no. And I thank them for it to this day because something clicked midway through that tough love.
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_01Something clicked midway through that that I was like, I'm okay. And ever since then, you've been fine.
SPEAKER_00We should have gotten a merit badge for that, kind of like a parental relations, uh, you know, cut the cord type of the homesit merit badge.
SPEAKER_01The homesick merge. The homesick merit badge. You're gonna be fine, it's gonna be it's like detox. Do you I mean, listen, I first of all I love this.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if other people are enjoying this. I hope they are, but this is the longest one we've ever done. Oh my goodness, how'd the time go? Yeah, I know where to go, but like, uh is there any merit badge that you would like to get today? Oh, plenty of them. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um I think you already mentioned one. You already mentioned one. Yeah, bugling would be nice. Um things I'd like to be able to do. Yeah. Like just to call myself some like I probably need a refresher course on the plumbing merit badge. Yeah. You know?
SPEAKER_00Um, I don't really care to do stamp collecting. I I uh I could ru I'd really like to hone in my golf game and thus get the golf merit badge. But buddy, you know, our friend Cray, who he's been on the pod before, like I bet he could get pretty much all of these with just like a day or two of uh I don't know. Oh maybe not this.
SPEAKER_01You you think you think he's gonna get the sculpture merit badge?
SPEAKER_00That's true. He's gonna get the ones worth getting though. He might.
SPEAKER_01Woodworking, he's got that one in the bag. Yes. But there's some of the other ones. I guarantee American Heritage, no. I will say this. Archaeology's out. We would all be better if we if we had them all. Oh, yeah. We'd be much more well-rounded people. Well-rounded people if we were all thinking more along the lines of the good old-fashioned Boy Scouts. Thanks again, folks, for listening to another episode of the Small Towns Podcast. We're pretty sure we've changed your life for the better. If not, well, we'll try again next time.
