Welcome millions, upon millions, after millions, of faithful podcast listeners. We are your hosts, Jason Kilbert and Dave Simmons. We'll bring you along with us as we share life stories from our experiences living in small towns, or in Jason's case, an unincorporated community. That's true. Along with genius suggestions for solving world problems and a whole lot of laughs. This is the Small Town Podcast. Dave, you and I have been we've been doing these podcasts for uh for a long time now. It feels like a long time. We've got 20 plus episodes out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it but it in a way it doesn't feel like it's been a long time. You know, it's only been a few months, I think, but it's been so far, it's been a lot of fun. A lot of suc it's kind of successful so far. I think so for a couple of dudes.
SPEAKER_00A couple of guys sitting in a basement with a couple of mics. I mean, it's um it's been a lot of fun. And and it it's interesting, you and I have known each other for gosh, 16, 17 years now. And um but we're telling a lot of stories that you know I'm hearing some of these for the first time, you're hearing them for the first time. It's dang funny. And and and it's it's fun to do it. I mean, um it's I don't think we've got well, we got a lot of listeners. I'm I'm I'm just gonna try and you know.
SPEAKER_01We yeah, we have had, didn't you say I don't I don't know exact numbers, but they're the thousands and thousands of of of downloads.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. So we got a lot of people listening, and uh again, just one tiny channel, but like subscribe, give us a like.
SPEAKER_01Yep, give us a like, subscribe, let us know if you want to aver I want us to advertise for you, we'd be happy to do it.
SPEAKER_00Um one thing that Dave and I do, and I we've actually done this, I think probably for almost as long as we've known each other, is we love movies. Yep. We love movies and and we love movie quotes. There's some great ones. There's some great ones, and and um interestingly enough, on a side note, on a movie-related side note, um sometimes Dave and I, with some other buddies, we'll go to a late-night movie, and we typically go to these movies that our wives have zero desire to go to. So, like for my wife, if there's like a vampire, a unicorn, or like a zombie in it, she's out.
SPEAKER_01Well, I'm out on those too. Well, like, yeah. Yeah, I I mean there's we have a little group that we go, and there's some of them I'm just I just back out of. You do, you back out of it. Because I have no interest in horror movies. That's true. I I don't have any interest in any type of zombie. Yeah, well it's too Halloween y too. I have a problemers know I have a when they went to it, I'm like, well, enjoy that because I will not be going to that one.
SPEAKER_00I know, and I can't even see a red balloon anymore without scaring.
SPEAKER_01I don't even know what that means, but it scares me just thinking about it. It scares me even thinking about it. I I'm not doing it.
SPEAKER_00But a good comedy, oh yeah, um, adventure movie, I'm all in. And I'll see anything, quite frankly, because a lot of times I am just in it for the corn, the coke, and brotherhood. And yep, and the friends. Yeah, so it's like we've seen a lot of dumb stuff. Oh my goodness, some bad movies. Bad movies.
SPEAKER_01Why don't we we should be reviewing movies?
SPEAKER_00You know what, actually. That's not a bad idea.
SPEAKER_01I we'd be great at it. Well, I think so. I mean, if if you can't get on board with the things I like, then you have a problem.
SPEAKER_00That's on you. Yeah, I'd say it's like if you don't like this movie, then you're stupid. Yeah, then you're pretty dumb. Sorry. Um but and even through this podcast, I I know that we quote movies all the time, and sometimes we don't even reference that we're quoting them. I think probably a lot of our listeners know. Um, but it almost is for me, it's kind of turned into the vernacular. Yeah. I'll quote movies all the time, and I kind of judge that's how I determine what is some of the great movies of all time, is how many times I quote it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, and TV shows too. I mean, I since you you quote Seinfeld and The Office and all these things all the time. But Jason and I had a thought about doing a podcast about old 80s and 90s uh movies that we remember. And uh I think a lot of our here's the format. Here's what we're thinking. Tell me if I because again, folks, we don't we don't really talk too much about what we're gonna get into, except for here's the idea, let's just run with this. Yeah. So correct me if I'm wrong, but the idea is that we'll kind of quiz each other. We'll give we'll give a line from a movie and see if the other guy can come up with that what that movie is. Yeah. What I think will be fun about that is our listeners, I think, will be sitting in their cars or however they're consuming these podcasts and throwing out the name the word I know what that is, that is, and then it should be fun for everybody that either listens or for me and you doing this.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh, I don't know why this thought popped into my mind, but when you said Seinfeld, I mean that's one of the great m shows of all time.
SPEAKER_01Almost everything, I there anything can be turned into a Seinfeld episode.
SPEAKER_00And you remember that episode where it says Jerry says to Kramer, I don't like the idea. What does he say? And I'm not sometimes I'm not great at quoting.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and by the way, when we quote these movies, we're gonna be close, but we might not have a movie word for word for it. It's gonna be dang close.
SPEAKER_00I don't like the idea of nothing between you and me and other than a thin piece of gabardine. A thin layer.
SPEAKER_01He's talking to Elaine, he goes, Do you realize what's happening on here? The only thing between him and us is a thin layer of gabardine. That's a great one. David Cramer decides he's not gonna wear jockeys anymore. He's got he's gotta uh keep sperm count up and he goes, he goes to he tries to do boxers and they're riding up on him, so he just goes commando.
SPEAKER_00So he goes, yeah, he tries, he goes with see none of the above. Yep, none of the above. Oh my gosh, but that's great. You you can say these little bits and pieces, and it it always just brings a smile to your face. So um let's see here. I I feel like you should go first. I did do it. I got a lot.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so I'll I'll have you go first.
SPEAKER_00So, and I'm gonna try. I mean, nobody likes a game where you're trying to trick them, but um let's start off with. I'm not gonna say this is too obscure, and I'm actually gonna try and act it out a little bit in my in my tonal inflection. Okay, good. I like it. How about this one? Get him a body bag!
unknownYeah!
SPEAKER_01Sweep the leg. Sweep the leg. Sweep the leg. Sweep the leg. Do you have a problem with that? No sensei.
SPEAKER_00Get him a body bag! And like, obviously, the karate kid. It's the karate kid. It's the karate kid. It's such a great one. How about the guy that says that when he's like, get him a body bag? Like, if you watch that, go back and watch that movie, and that guy's face, he's kind of in the background behind the mean sensei. Yeah. Right. His he is so excited. He is out for blood, but he's got a big smile. Get him, get him body bag. Like, he looks so happy yet mean. That's pretty rough.
SPEAKER_01Well, those Cobra Kai, they're they weren't nice guys. No, no. Pain did not exist in that dojo. Fear did not exist.
SPEAKER_00Fear did not exist in that dojo. Does it? You know what? This may, I don't want to go down a rabbit hole here, but like I had a little something for Elizabeth Shue. That scares me just a little. And let me tell you why.
SPEAKER_01Plenty of people have said how much li that that age Elizabeth Shoe looked just like my wife.
unknownOh. Well.
SPEAKER_01Google it. Exactly. I'll bring up some pictures for you and I'll show you. That's probably not a healthy exercise. No, but especially in like adventures in babysitting. Susie looked very similar to Elizabeth Shoe. You know, I can see that. And even now, as they both have aged gorgeously by. Yes, beautiful. Look it up. In fact, I'll find it for you and you'll be like, oh yeah, she does look a lot like that.
SPEAKER_00Well, and even like um Elizabeth Shu, she is. But yeah, hey, look, it's okay if you if you think my wife is pretty. She is. I mean, yeah, listen. It's all right. She's done some, I feel like she's even done some recent work. I just, I, you know, I'm trying to think of some of the some of the stuff that she's done. Um she made an appearance in Cobra Kai. I that's the I haven't watched it. And I I've only watched like one or two uh again, so we we might get into some of my you know um junior high crushes as we talk to some about these. So again, sweep the leg! Sweep the leg that's such a good movie.
SPEAKER_01There's tons, tons of them from that. I could quote a lot of different ones from that one as well. And you're dang good at remembering quotes. It's it's just one of those things. I don't know why, but I do. You want one? Yeah, let's hear it. Do you know what this means? It means that this dang thing doesn't work at all.
unknownCome on.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know it, I know it. It took me that's a little obscure. Yeah. Here, let me give you another one from that same the same thing, okay? I know it.
SPEAKER_01Um that bump, that bump on your head. I know how you got it. You were sitting, you were standing in your toilet hanging the clock, the Porsche one was left. You hit the you fell hit your head on the sink when you came to had a revelation, a vision. I drew this the flux capacitor.
SPEAKER_00Add future boy. Rattle Reagan, future boy, who's the vice president? Jerry Lewis? I suppose Jane Wyman is the first lady. That um that actually is one of my favorite that that trilogy is without a doubt probably one of the best one of the best ones out there. Yeah. We've quoted this one on the podcast a lot. It's like manure manure. I hate manure. I hate manure manure. Going to the dance, Grandma. Bags Future 2. Bag's a future too. How about this though? I actually used this, I don't think I've shared this on the podcast before, but I was up golfing. This is actually last summer. I was golfing and I was in the clubhouse, and there's this kid that works in the clubhouse. Yeah. And it took me a little while, but I put two and two together. I actually used to work with his mom at the bank. I was a manager of a branch, she was a manager of another local branch, just a delightful, delightful lady. And I realized that this kid I knew his grandma. And so I'm walking out of the I'm walking out of the clubhouse and I'm just like, hey, buddy, say hello to your grandma for me.
SPEAKER_01Say hi to your mom for me. That's one of the things. One of my buddies and I, old Ryan Balou. He and I always say that, say hi to your mom for me.
SPEAKER_00See, the thing, and and bless this kid's heart. He, you know, I think he's like, at the time, he's like 18, 19 years old, completely lost. He had no idea. It's a shame. It's a crime shame. Particularly those, those are like cinematic masterpieces. Yeah, I'll set it. I said it. I'll say it again. I absolutely did.
SPEAKER_01I gotta have time to retype. Do you realize what would happen if I handed in my hand my homework and your handwriting? I'd get kicked out of school. Now you wouldn't want that to happen, would you? Well, would ya? No. Fig McFan. I wouldn't want that to happen. No, no. How does he laugh? How does he talk? Woo, dad, try to try time to change that oil. Kisses his dad on the head. So good. So funny. Well, how about this one's from that movie, too? Whoa, ho! Look at her what look at her role. Now we can watch Jackie Gleason while we eat. Do you have a TV? Yeah, we have two of them. Well, you know, we have two of them. Whoa, you must be rich. Oh, he's just teasing. Nobody has to tease. Oh, and that brings up one of the greatest quotes. He's an odd boy. He's an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too. Elaine, have you ever had a son like that of DeSonya? Or Lorraine, that's a good thing. That's Lorraine, Lorraine, Lorraine.
SPEAKER_00Lorraine, you ever have a son like that out of DeSonya? And I mean, we gotta be careful. I mean, some of them, some of these quotes didn't age very well, but just do whatever you can on give me my favorite question. I know you were gonna ask that. I don't can we say that? Well, I mean, can you maybe, maybe I don't just just just clean it up for us. I mean, I don't know. Do you clean that up?
SPEAKER_01I don't know, I don't know. Do you want me to do it? Just just I mean, listen. So in Back to the Future 3, he walks into the saloon. Yes. And the old guys, the old timers. Now, back then, they said what they wanted to say. They said they wanted to say. Look what just breezed on through the door. And then they look at his shoes and they're like, it looks like he got them off a dead shiny. I don't know. Maybe you should. You can't say that. You can't say that. And folks, you don't say that.
SPEAKER_00You don't say that. But it um but he did. He did say it. And it's because it's like he's like, was it like knee K. Yeah. Those those moccasins he's got on. What is that? Knee K. I'd say so. I love. I love Back to the Future. So good.
SPEAKER_01Um 1.21 chairs! Tom, how could I have been so careless? It can't be done, can it? Unfortunately, you never know when or where it's gonna be. The bolt of lightning. What did you say? We do the bolt of lightning.
SPEAKER_00Unfortunately, you never know when or where it's gonna strike. We do now. I actually sent this in a text to you just the other day. I was pushing the cart at Walmart, and and I don't know what happens in those places, but like I don't know if if I'm not grounded properly, but like I'm pushing the cart, and then I reach over and I touch something metal, and like literally 1.21 gigabots zapped right. It's just zapping right through my right through my veins.
SPEAKER_01You're the conductor, you just could the ground can I don't know what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I do love that one. Um let's see here. You got some? No, I got some. You got some? Give us one.
SPEAKER_01You're gonna live with me now, because I love you.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Baby Ruth! And then this one time I threw up at the movies. Goonies is a great one. Have your kids seen Goonies? They have. They've seen it, and it's interesting because one thing that's a little bit problematic with some of these movies is like I watched them as a kid in the 80s, and then all of a sudden I'm watching, I'm like, oh. The language is not real I can remember, huh? Karate Kid. Yeah, same. Back to the Future. I it's like I don't remember it being so. But yeah, it's it's it's tough. Yeah. Goonies is a great one.
SPEAKER_01So good. So good. Uh the truffle the truffle, yeah. The Truffle Shuffle. I've done that a time or two. Oh, well, I'd like to see that. Well, maybe I don't. Exactly. It would be a lot of fun to see that. Goonies is great. Um there was another line in Goonies that I felt like was really follow those size fives. Do you remember that? Yeah. ORV. Bullet holes. Hey, Mikey, come home and give me a lickory kiss.
SPEAKER_00Such a great show. So good. I love that show. Okay, let me test you with what's this one. Okay. Um, and this is uh if you don't get this one, I'll be surprised because well, no spoilers. Ever seen a spleen that large before? You're stealing my stuff. You're stealing my stuff.
SPEAKER_01Shoot, sorry, buddy. No, no, not since breakfast. Fletch and Fletch lives. You can quote every movie. You own rubber gloves? I lease them. I got a little I I know he goes, do you do you own rubber gloves? I rent them. I have a lease with an option to buy. What do you say, Mr. Fletcher? Will you kill me?
SPEAKER_00Sure. That is such like that. Fletch and Fletch lives. I mean, can you rank those? Is one better than the other?
SPEAKER_01One A, one B. They're so so good. Our buddy Nick Zollinger was wearing a t-shirt the other the other day that said, put it on the underhill account. Yes. He didn't know what it was from. And I was just he goes, I thought I think it's from Caddyshack. I'm like, no! No, that is not from Caddyshack. Yes. See, do you want to he's at the country club? Yes. And he finds out the people are there at the Underhills, and he's he tells the waiter guy to put it on the Underhills account on the American Express. And uh he goes, Well, how's your caviar? It's good sinor. No, he goes, Do you have caviar? See, senor, but it is $80 a portion. See, senor. It is beluga, but it is $80 a portion. Well, I bet I only have two of those then. I'll take a Bloody Mary uh steak sandwich and uh steak sandwich.
SPEAKER_00See that's such a great, great move. Now, how did you growing up, how did you consume these shows?
SPEAKER_01Oh, Jason's Peter, Jason Ansi's house, we watched a lot of them. Okay, and he had a lot of videos of VHSs.
SPEAKER_00My mom actually uh She was the Grouse Creek Blockbuster. She was the blockbuster. I I at any given point, well, at some point, well into her collection. She had more than probably 400 VHS, maybe 500 VHS. Oh my gosh. How do you keep those in a double wide trailer? Well, I'll tell you what, I actually in shop class one time I made her uh a stand. That would have to be a stand the size of a whole double wide trailer. She had several stands. This was just one that held her favorite ones. And did she have like a catalog that people would come and rent them? Well, yeah, for free. Well, yeah, for free. She needed to know where they were. Yeah, she'd write them down. Um, but even before that, do you remember the times of like like you'd go and you'd rent a VC, you rent the VCR? Oh yeah, you'd have to do that. You had to rent the VCR, bring it home. And being raised in Grouse trick, I mean the nearest place to rent was two hours away, Burley, Idaho. Yeah, an hour and a half. Yeah. And so it was a rare occasion, but I do remember, I feel like I was binging things before binging things was cool. Yeah. Because we'd maybe go on a Friday or something and rent the VCR for and usually it there's only a 24-hour thing, so you have to kind of rent for a couple of days. And then, like, we mom and dad let us pick out like two or three movies. So we'd have like six movies to just watch in the course of one weekend. Oh. It was a good weekend. It was a great weekend. Get yourself some microwave corn and go to town. Absolutely. And then you remember sometimes you put the static on the TV, you had to fix the tracking.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, oh yeah, you had to really work it. Get that little knob to get it right. How about this one? Yeah, okay. Okay, here we go. Stretched out dormants on the windows, walls that are depleting to an alarming degree. What you got here is a severe case of reticulous larimus maricomis. And the guy goes, Ridiculous what? See, you can't even say it, boy. Ridiculous Larimus Mariquomus is a deadly microscopic African termite that can eat 100 pounds its own weight in less than a minute, much like yourself. That's fletched libs. That's fledgled libs. Is that the word he actually pretends like he's up? And he accidentally drops it in his ear. And it's like the only way to get that ass is get to the closest to floorboards as you can and squeal like a pig. He's down there just squealing and he walks away. Oh, so good. And he uses a different name every time he meets somebody. Billie Jean King Bugbusters. That's who he was that time. I love Fletcher.
SPEAKER_00So good. If you have not watched those movies, I mean highly recommend watch them both.
SPEAKER_01He and Calculus Antoby, remember the but he's an undercover uh FBI agent. Oh, spoiler.
SPEAKER_00That's okay. Well, I mean the movie's. It's from what the 80s. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01If we can't spoil it now, he uh yeah, he was he goes, I'll be calculus antobe. You'd be Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher, I'd be Fletch, Geometry Fletch, she'd be Miss Trigonometry Ross. So good. Or he goes the first time he goes to Bible land, and he's like, Bible land. And then and then uh Reverend Jimmy Lee Farnsworth says something like uh right down here we got Jump for Jesus Trampoline Center. Over though, over though we have uh the Great Noah's Ark where we have a flood every 10 minutes.
SPEAKER_00The Heavenly Hilton Convention Center. See, okay, commentary on these movies because these are fantastic shows. I did do a little prep for this one because I kind of wanted to use maybe make sure I didn't forget any of my favorites. I started Googling, like, you know, movies of the 80s and the 90s. My list for the 80s is like so long, and I'm here to tell you longer than the 90s? Yes. Yeah, I've yeah, I don't know. It was neck and neck. I mean it was really close. But then you get into the 2000s, and I've seen great movies in the last 10 years, but very few movies that I would watch over and over again. Or that are as quotable, maybe. Yeah, that's so true.
SPEAKER_01And I don't know if it's just because that's the the time of life you were in at the time, and it's I don't know, maybe it's an age thing where it just soaks in and now we see things, and and we consume so much nowadays that you have to just kind of let something go in out there or the other. But those movies, they stuck for me. Yeah, because most of these most of the movies now I'm not gonna watch them again. One and done. No, me too. The funny thing is, is I still remember I haven't watched Fletcher Fletch Lives probably since I was 18, 19, yeah. Full all the way through. Yeah, I mean, if it's if I'm flipping through the channels and it's on all for sure stop. Remember when Fletch goes to the doctor and he's he's trying to do it, he's if people haven't watched it, he it's Chevy Chase.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and he's he's a he's a journalist.
SPEAKER_01Yes, well, he's an undercover reporter. He's trying to figure out who's selling drugs in in the Los Angeles area, and he's and he's kind of on a lead here, and he's he wants to go to the same doctor that the guy he's trying to follow or trying to find the information on. So he goes to his doctor, and the guy has him do a uh proc proctology check, right? I mean, or or I mean he's anyways, but he introduces himself as Mr. Babar. Mr. Babar. And so Fletch is doing the the thing. That's that's the old moon moon river. Um two R something. Yeah. Well he goes, um, the doctor goes, that's an odd name. Isn't there a children's book about an elephant named Babar? Fletch goes, I don't know, I don't have any. Children? No, elephant books. Yeah, he does say is that two B's or one? One B. B-A-B-A-R. No, you one B, B-A-B-A-R. Well, that's two. Well, not right together. I thought that's what you went.
SPEAKER_00It's so, it's so clever. The writing is fantastic. What kind of name is Poon? Comanche Indian. Oh man, okay. Let me see. Let me give you another test. Let me give you another test. Um, I don't actually, I'm gonna give you there's no way you're gonna get this one. Okay? Mainly because I believe you. And it's because it's I I you've probably not seen this show because it's not in. Your wheelhouse, but it's kind of funny. It's one of my favorites. Um, I think I've actually had my girls watch it because Kennedy wants to watch scary movies, but you know, they can't be too scary. I can't watch Watch in the Woods.
SPEAKER_01Did you ever watch Watch in the city? That messed me up. That's a Disney What? It's school. It's a Disney movie. So they're like, well, it's Disney, so we're gonna watch it at school. That's how they do things in Grouse Cricket. They do. On Halloween? On Halloween. Nerik. Oh. Watch in the Woods messed me up. I think that's why I can't watch any of the movies. Really? From there? It's super like Betty Davis is so scary in that movie. Jason, here's the thing. I don't even remember the movie.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01I have no idea what was in that movie.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01All I know is Nerik. Yes, Karen spelled backwards. Exactly. And it was like it was like written on a window, wasn't it? Yeah, yeah, exactly. I don't even remember the movie. All I know is Watcher in the Woods messed me up. Uh that's fair. That's fair. And it's a Disney movie. It's a Disney movie, but it's kind of fantastic. I don't think it is. Speaking of Disney movies, I can come up with wild quotes from some of those old ones. Like bed knobs and broomsticks.
SPEAKER_00Oh wow, I don't think I could come up with a quote from that. Yeah, well, I don't know if it's a good one.
SPEAKER_01I can sing a lot of songs. And then they have to turn the bed knob the broom at the bed knob and then tap on it twice. Next thing you know, they're under the water. And with Angela Lansbury, that's beautiful. Well, she's an American treasure. Actually, isn't she? She's not American.
SPEAKER_00We claim her. We claim her. We claim her. Yeah, murder murder she wrote. How about this one? You say you hate Washington's birthday or Thanksgiving, and nobody cares, but you say you hate Christmas. And people treat you like you're a leper.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean it's gonna be a tough one. I don't I don't have any idea. I bet some of our listeners are there yelling at their car. Well, it's a this is obscure. Gremlins.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I would never I wouldn't I didn't watch it because of the it's little Halloweeny. But yeah, but like Mowgli, he was a cute one, right? Mogwai. Mogwai, he's a Mogwai. I don't know. Mowgli is from Jungle Book. Oh, Jungle Book. Yeah, that's Jungle Book. Same N, you know what I mean? Same diff. It's not the same diff. But that's like, I mean, she just like uh she's telling this story that's why she hates Christmas. She feels the same way about Christmas you do about Halloween. Well that's messed up. That's it. But people probably think it's messed up that I don't like Halloween. I mean she say you hate Washington's birthday or Thanksgiving, nobody cares. You say you hate Christmas, and people treat you like you're a leper. And that's Gremlins? Gremlins, yeah. It's worth watching.
SPEAKER_01I wouldn't have come up with that one. Yeah. You got any? Yeah, I got one. I'm just trying to think of the best way to start it. Okay. Do you remember the first time I saw that bike and I told you how much I loved it? I love that story. My uh and then he wants to buy the bike and he says, My father says anything's negotiable. Well, good for you and your father. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Pee-wee's great adventure. Pee Wee's Great Adventure is so good. You want to talk about a movie that messed you up. Messed me. I love that movie. The large marks scared me. I can still see those eyes.
SPEAKER_01Me too. It was a large mark sent you. On the same stretch of road. On a night just like tonight. In fact, tonight's the anniversary. And then she does her little so scary. Oh, that's good. Um. Then Bernie brushes his teeth. My dog hurried.
SPEAKER_02It's a great movie. It's dumb and great.
SPEAKER_01I love it. I can't go to the Alamo. I've been to the Alamo and with my friends who all have the same feeling about Pee Wee's Great Adventure. And both all of us are in there like, I wonder where the basement is. The basement of the Alamo. When are we going to see the basement? There's no basement in the Alamo. Some of these is worth a rewatch. Oh yeah. Pee Wee's Great Adventure. I made my kids watch it. They thought it was terrible, but they also thought it was pretty funny.
SPEAKER_00Obscure here. You're not dying. You just can't think of anything good to do.
SPEAKER_01He'll keep calling. He'll keep calling. I'll go. I'll go. I'll go. I'll go. I'll go. I'll go. He'll keep calling. Ferris Bueller. Ferris classic. So good. So there's other ones from Ferris Bueller that we probably need to be saying.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We might have to do a part two to this. Yeah, really. You got uh I I've I got a bunch more here. We've there's a couple of movies that we haven't even touched on that we have to. And we're gonna do it.
SPEAKER_01We're running out of time. What time is time we got on the gosh?
SPEAKER_00Oh my goodness. Um, how about this one? Um such let's see here. We'll never survive. Nonsense. You're only saying that because no one ever has. Um Princess Bride.
SPEAKER_01Oh, good for you. That one's another one I can uh oh yeah, that's such a such a great movie. Let me explain. No, there's too much. Let me sum up. I sum up. Um I'll give you my word as a Spaniard. No good. I've known too many Spaniards. You're trying to kidnap what I have rightfully stolen. Vincini is so good in that. Give me how about this, how about the scene where the it's so the battle of wits has begun. It ends when what when both of us drink and the other dies. You're challenging me to uh, how does it go? Anyways, the that whole scene is so so good.
SPEAKER_00So it's so good. Um I think you know this one, and it's fun when you just do it off of uh off of memory. Um Tyrone.
SPEAKER_01You know how I love to watch you work.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01But I I I think I do mess that one up, but he says something like, I've got a I've got a war to start, I've got my wife to murder, I'm swamped.
SPEAKER_00He's like, Yeah, he says, I actually wrote this and I was like, Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work. And he's the six-fingered man, if you remember Tyrone. But I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder, and Gilbert a frame for it. I'm swamped. Swamped.
SPEAKER_01Well, if you don't have your health, you don't have anything. I love that. That is so good. I want I feel like I can do the almost the whole battle of wits. Yes. But it it's it's hard when you're in a on the spot like that and you want to just start it, but that one's that one is such a great show.
SPEAKER_00I uh this I I mean we could we don't have to close up on this one because if you've got some, I want to hear them as well. But this I'll go ahead and say this. This is my all-time favorite movie of all time. Wow. Yeah, of all time. Wow. Based off of how much I quote it, and based off the number of times that I've seen it, because I don't I wouldn't even know how to put a number on it. And I I I think we're similar in the same, and and you're gonna get this right away. Let me try if I can get you a bit of an obscure one.
SPEAKER_01Um from your very favorite movie of all time.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Okay. I'm sorry. This is our family's first kidnapping.
SPEAKER_01Um Christmas vacation. Yeah, for sure. No one says that. If I had a rubber hose, I would beat you.
SPEAKER_00I took care of it! I reinstated all the bonuses.
SPEAKER_01That one of my favorite lines in that one is I don't know, Margo. Oh, it's like, and why is the carpet all wet, Todd? I don't know, Margot. That oh my gosh, that one is an absolute classic. Christmas vacation.
SPEAKER_00Surprised, Eddie. If I woke up tomorrow morning with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be any more surprised than I am right now.
SPEAKER_01That there is an RV. Don't go falling in love with it. We're gonna take it when we leave here next month. And he chokes on his egg dog. It's so classic. Here's one you won't get.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01And if you do, I'll be super impressed. Okay. Because it's said in a different language. Oh. Izvanita, Pujolsta, Munis Nile. It's at the very end. Izvanitja, Pujolsta, Munis Nyli. That's Russian. That's Russian.
SPEAKER_02That's Russian.
SPEAKER_01I mean, it's so familiar. I've seen the movie, haven't I? Oh yeah. There's no way you haven't seen it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They had just accidentally launched a nuclear weapon.
SPEAKER_00I know, I know, I know, I know. Spies like us. Spies like us. Spies like us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, see, that's funnier for me because uh I speak Bulgarian and Russian and Bulgarian is similar enough. So when I got home and I happened to come across that and hear it, what he's saying actually in English is um, excuse us, we're sorry, we didn't know.
SPEAKER_02After watching it ignored their code.
SPEAKER_01He's in YouTube, Pajasta, we need to excuse us, we're sorry, we didn't know.
SPEAKER_00These movies are so good. Um and and if the the more you quote them, the funnier they get. Oh, how about how about oh sorry, how about as fast as Nanu.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I know this one. Very, very if you watch this one, it's an old Disney. Probably some racist racism going on in there. Okay, okay. You got another one? Um well they're they're seeing a cheetah run across the African and wow, look at that cheetah. That's the fastest animal in the world. Not as fast as Nanu.
SPEAKER_00What is that one? I know I've seen it. The world's greatest athlete. Oh, yeah. I I wouldn't have I wouldn't have been able to come up with that. Yeah, some of those, some of those old ones are funny. You think of all these great movies.
SPEAKER_01Let me look at your list now.
SPEAKER_00Are we done with our done for sure? Like Happy Gilmore's. Tommy Boy. Oh yeah, those are so good. Wayne's World, that's a little bit more men in Black.
SPEAKER_01Can you even come up with a line from Men in Black? No, I don't think so, but I just was like addicted. Okay. Forma na uh Forma and on Linha aquí, por favor. It's when it's when they just uh went to get the people that were in the back of the truck, and Tommy Lee Jones wants them to form a a line a line right here. Yeah, that I don't know why I can remember forma and linha aquí, por favor.
SPEAKER_00You remember that uh Tommy Boys got another lot of great quotes. He's all like, Did you eat paint chips as a kid? I don't remember that line. You don't remember that? No. Because he's like, it's when he's like spraying them off with a gas hose after trying to tip a cow. We just talked about this with Cray. Oh, didn't work out. And he's like spraying them with a gas hose, and he's like, I'm a mehini, yak mehanye. Chris probably just dancing, he's like, Did you eat paint chips as a kid? And Chris probably's like, Yeah? Why? No, why?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, a lot of people go to college for five for what was like eight years or something like that. Yeah, they're called doctors. Oh my goodness. These great movies.
SPEAKER_00I mean, there's a lot of them.
SPEAKER_01Dumb and dumber, how did we not get to that one? I know. How about the sand lot? Oh. There's so many good lines in that one, too. I love that. You want s'more? I'm gonna have s'more if I haven't had one yet. S'more, what? You're killing me, smalls. Killing me, smalls. I love that so much. Um we could do, yeah, boy, that's this episode's already been too long, and we didn't know we touch on those. I hope our listeners, though, have listened to or listened to this just loving some of these old movie quotes.
SPEAKER_00Pop some corn.
SPEAKER_01Uh start with Fletch. Start you will not go wrong. No, and then go to Fletch Lives. You you won't go wrong. But yeah, maybe not with the kids. Yeah, but just at the first, because I can't remember how much swearing is going on in that one, but there's some. And we don't, we we cannot be held liable for any of that.
SPEAKER_00No, I can't I can't be held liable. I've said this many times. I've never been anybody's moral compass. Well, you do like to swear.
SPEAKER_01Thanks again, folks, for listening to another episode of the Small Towns Podcast. We're pretty sure we've changed your life for the better. If not, well, we'll try again next time.
