Welcome millions upon millions, perhaps billions, of faithful podcast listeners. We are your hosts, Jason Kimber and Dave Simmons.
SPEAKER_01We'll bring you along with us as we share life stories from our experiences living in small towns, or in Jason's case, an unincorporated community. That's true. Along with genius suggestions for solving world problems and a whole lot of laughs. This is the Small Towns Podcast. Welcome back to another edition of Small Towns Podcast, Jason Kimber and Dave Simmons and part two of our episode with a uh with Scott Budge and more happy we could not be.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely, like Scott Budge is like, he is like a he is like a um like he's an influencer, he's a rock star, he's best friends with Garth Brooks. Like, there is so much going on right now. I mean we finished up uh an episode with him and and we we had to just we cut it off at the 30. I don't know why, but it we just it felt like natural. Yeah. But there's just so much more to say. So much more to me.
SPEAKER_01We've only the tip of the icebergs on this.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. And and just to get if if for some reason you're listening to this one before the first one, go back because if you want to see if if Scott Budge still has a baby lodged in his fleshy bicep, well, we're gonna have to get a picture of it.
SPEAKER_01You know what? He wasn't the only one getting pain inflicted upon him. We didn't talk about this. I'm gonna bring it up. Well, I don't know if your brother Mike wants to talk about this. Oh no. But you punched him right in the face. Mike? Yeah. You were boxing with your brother Mike and I was like, Well, we were brothers and we were boxing.
SPEAKER_00We'd box out on the tramp. But like no, like no, just fists? Oh no, we had the boxing gloves, we had red ones, you know.
SPEAKER_01Okay. But we'd go to town, and my trick is he would punch at me, and I'd be able to lock his arm under my armpit, and then it was just it was just a male jack camera right up into the side of him.
SPEAKER_00Again, from a previous episode. I'm not proud though, Mike. Talk to Kevin about getting punched in the face while he's driving a car. I mean, that's that's butch for you. But Mike ended in a net brace, right? He did.
SPEAKER_01Oh, he did. I I always think I tell my friend, my kids, hey, Scott Budge punched his own brother right in the face, put him in a neck brace.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I feel like, I mean, are you familiar with the term like like somebody needs to file a bully report?
SPEAKER_01Domestic violence? I'm not proud of it. Mike, and I listen, I publicly apologize over the airwaves right now. Yeah, but if you wouldn't have done it, we didn't have the story. Well, it's true, but I, you know, uh hopefully he understands it was just a friendly brother, one-on-one, you know. Beating well, and boxing fire. You told taught me what the drill was. Oh my word. I remember all these things. He used to get his fist right in the sternum of Mike and just give him the drill. Is Mike older or younger? He's younger.
SPEAKER_00How much younger? Two years. Okay, so listen, first of all, I love playing the role of judge here. And and even though like Budge is of the three of us, he's the most ecclesiastical leader I know. Yeah. Um you publicly apologize to him on the pod. Yeah. So um forgive him. Forgiven, yeah. Thank you, Judge. Mike, on behalf of Mike, I accept your apologies. Guys, this is fun.
SPEAKER_01Mike's at all. I didn't say that was a show.
SPEAKER_00All of a sudden we have a college show. Mike is like, uh, first time caller, love. Do not apologize. Well, have you I've never been punched in the face, and I don't want to be. I've been punched around the face. Oh, yeah, yeah. Mission. Yeah. Bulgaria.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they just punched me. And I'll tell you what happens. I wonder if Mike had the same thing. I I got instant rain. Well, Mike probably didn't because he couldn't hold his head up. But I had instant race. It wasn't that bad. It's not like I knocked his head off his shoulders. Well, if he's in head braces, then I'm gonna go back to the ball.
SPEAKER_00Well, he was alright.
SPEAKER_01It just ended up stretching the neck a little bit.
SPEAKER_00They took the trake out, he's fine.
SPEAKER_01In fact, I think he boxed a little later that afternoon. Well, I wouldn't be surprised. He's probably not. You throat punched him. You throat punched him. Yeah, your throat punched him is what you did. Um, yeah, I was on a bus and uh I had a I don't know, a street tough come up to me. Street tough. You gotta know, in Bulgaria they did not they did not take kindly to us. They thought that we were scapani sectanti, which basically means dirty cultists. Yeah, and they would call us that.
SPEAKER_00I mean, this is obviously, I mean, I think everybody knows, but this is obviously dirty missionaries.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes. So um he comes up to me to bus stop and tries to pick a fight. Now I strategically stopped a passerby and said, Hey, do you know this guy? He's trying to p trying to pick a fight with us, and you know, we didn't do anything at all. And so this guy apparently was a a Cuban immigrant. Apparently, back in in the days of the Soviet Union, they could move around a little bit with inside other Soviet states, so from Cuba to Bulgaria, whatever. He had been there a while and he spoke beautiful Bulgarian. And he chewed this kid out. Oh, yeah. And it was awesome. And I told him thank you and everything, and so we hopped on the bus. And no, the kid hopped on the bus, then the next one that came and left. And so we talked to this guy for a minute, he was very nice. And we hopped on the next bus and left.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Well, the kid had gotten off at the next stop and caught my eye. He we made eye contact as I was on the bus now. Oh, the next one coming. He hops back on the bus. He's standing right next to me. I got my hand on doing this because I, you know, in those buses, you're holding on to, you're standing up.
SPEAKER_00I feel like right now you are Jason Bourne. Yeah, basically. Basically.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So I'm standing on the bus and he comes and kind of gets right in my ear and he goes, get off and let's finish this. And I said, Finish what? There's nothing to finish. So, anyways, we get to the next stop, and I'll be danged if my head isn't all of a sudden just gush. I I I was I knew I didn't feel it because my adrenaline was going. All of a sudden I'm like, Well, I just got punched in the face. You got punched in the face. And I snapped. Like instant rage. And I follow this kid as he's trying to get off the bus. When I say kid, he was about my age. So at the time we were 19 years old.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, this is gonna be fair.
SPEAKER_01I push him down off the stairs of the bus.
SPEAKER_00I like it. You got the upper ground.
SPEAKER_01Now I got upper ground. And he turns around and he starts thinking he's coming back after me. Ooh, I laid one right on his kisser. Just really?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I let him have it. I've never punched anybody, nor have I ever been punched now. For previous episode, I was thinking that you were the bully, but now it's Dave.
SPEAKER_01Well, I got punched first.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, fair.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I punched him right in the face, and then at this point he falls back, and I'm thinking, close the door. Exactly. So I back back up into the bus and I'm waiting for this bus driver to close the door. He doesn't close the door.
SPEAKER_00Bus drivers all watch it in the mirror up there, and he's like, I want to see how this plays.
SPEAKER_01We were at the front of the bus. I could have touched the bus driver.
SPEAKER_00Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_01There's no reason he shouldn't have seen, yeah, I'm gonna close this floor. Yeah. So I back up into the kind of the the little walkway, and this dude jumps back up on the bus, grabs both of the sidebars, and tries to swing up and kick me.
SPEAKER_00Oh my goodness. This is just happening.
SPEAKER_01And I back away, you know, and then the kid somehow comes forward and grabs my tie. Now, nickelsworth free advice. If you're gonna get in a fight, do not wear a tie. Yeah, because he pulls it, now I'm like, and he's trying to pull it towards me. The knot in that thing now is about the size of a dime.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Tighter than a balloon knot. Yeah, tighter than a balloon knot. People break us up, he gets off, my adrenaline's going a thousand miles an hour. My companion is behind me, he couldn't do anything about it. Um and I hear people, Max. That's Max, sorry about that, folks. He's I hear people on the bus blaming me. Saying it's because you're a Scampany Sicante. And at that point, you're like, I'm just trying to do good. You know, I'm just trying to be helpful for people and serve people and that sort of stuff, and I'm dealing with this crap. Yeah, it was it was it was frustrating. But that wasn't the only time that happened. One time we were in another area, and this guy comes out of his apartment with a two by four. And he goes, he goes, the word, the word for like to kind of go through a building. We were for all of our LDS friends out there, we were tracking. Sure. Um, we were going through this building, and so I said to the guy, we're just gonna probe them, which is to go through this building and talk to people. And he says, I'm gonna probe you. Which didn't make a whole lot of sense. Yeah, that he used it that way. I mean, in in English, it's kind of funny. Um so we decided, okay, we'll leave. You know, we're not gonna get in a fight with this guy. Sure. So we start walking out. I walk first out of this door, and this my companion's right behind me, and I'll be danged if that guy didn't bust that two by four right over the back of my companion. Really? Just cracked it over him. And I looked up and I looked at this guy and I said, Which means you're a fool. Now, that's not terrible, right? No, no, no. And it must the way I said it in my eyes, the fear, the fire in my eyes, must have came off a little rougher than you're a fool. Exactly. Because he came after me with the other side of that board. But I was faster. And so he tried to throw it at me and he missed. But later in that day, we walked up, we were just kind of fuming a little bit, you know? So we happened to run into Sister Hebrew, and all of my old mission friends listening. Right when I said Sister Hebrew, they probably just went, oh she she was on like her third or fourth mission. Okay. She must have been 80 something years old. She was our little, she was our little um mission nurse. She was just a sweetheart. For some reason, she was in Plovduve that day when she's normally up in Sofia, which is an hour and a half at least by bus or train. I don't know why she was even down there, but we were still a little rattled when we ran into her on the little, they called it a Glovna, which is like the main street. And so we walk and we come up to her and she was talking to us, and we told her what just happened. And she she said, you know, elders, you have to protect yourself. You've got to hit them back. Okay. Listen, if sister's a hero, you're my sister, you betcha. You betcha. Yep. That wasn't the only one, guys. There was a metal pipe. I had a companion. Right. We were. Now you're starting to sound like clue games. Exactly. It was done. It was on the main street. This one was done in an elevator by the drunk with a metal pipe. He he we were like fish in a barrel. Is that what it is? Yeah, I think so.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I walk into the into the elevator, and these elevators are you can touch both sides. Yeah. They're little. And you can see the wall in front of you going up and down. And this guy, he was, he was if it was a five sheets for the wind? What's the saying? Well, three. Six? There's some sheets. There were some sheets.
SPEAKER_00There were some sheets. Ten sheets. Ten sheets. Boy, you gotta get your sheets together. Yeah, there.
SPEAKER_01I still need to get my sheets together. Yeah, get them in a pile. Yeah. A lot of sheets. A lot of sheets. He came in and he just put that metal pipe right on. My companion kind of protected his head and it went right down in between his bum and his forefinger and just boom.
SPEAKER_00I had a guy come at me uh on on my mission in Australia with a with a metal pipe. Yeah. I mean a metal bat. Did he hit you? No, thank goodness. There was four of us there, and he was this guy was higher than a kite. Yeah. And I was just trying to diffuse the situation because he was built like he was he was done some damage. He could have done some damage, and he was he was higher than a kite. And I remember he looked at me in the eye and he's like, You want to know what pain is? And I was like, I I don't. No, not tonight. I don't I don't want to know. I mean, like, listen, um, now I don't want to know. And uh he says, I'll show you pain. And he took that bat, and I I didn't I don't remember what I was feeling, but I was like, well, here we go. And he just took the bat and he went on his own head. Funk! Funk! On his own right here. He's bald and just and he just and I can hear that sound. I mean, it was not, he wasn't it wasn't just like tapping it. I mean he and I says, you know what? I says, we're good. Let's just we'll see it. We'll we'll see it. I mean, all of a sudden now feeling too bad. I mean, this guy was a bully, but now you're like bull. Well, I'm I'm just happy to come out of here, branded as a bully.
SPEAKER_01You know, really knocks myself as Steve's just shot. No, it's a little brother.
SPEAKER_00It's a little brother. Your brother was way meaner to you. He was way meaner than me. He came at me one time. He first of all, long story, he shot himself in the foot with a BB, uh with a 22 at Scout Camp. Okay, listen, that's on him. Absolutely. That's on him. But that's the only time I ever had the edge, and we got in a fight one time, but he was of course on crutches. And anyways, I think I told this on the pod before, but I was poking him, poking his thing, one thing, another. All of a sudden he just came right up out of that chair, crutches, because I'd stole his crutches because I thought he got the advantage. He didn't care. He charged me, and I screamed like a little baby, which I was, and ran to my room, and there was a big old bottle of ketchup on the kitchen table, and I just turned and I went just right on him. And then I got to our bedroom door, our shared bedroom, slammed the door, locked it, which I thought he was coming through. I mean, it's a double white trailer. Those things, you know, they're they're built out of paper machine. Pappy A machine. I thought he was coming through. I was bawling on the other side of that door. So, I mean, it's it's brothers, it's brotherly love. It is brotherly love. It'd be tough, right? Yeah, I kicked the screen out and I jumped out the window and I ran for my life. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01The only physical altercation I had been on was the baseball brawl we had. It's Mountain Crest. Yeah, and I froze under pressure. You froze under pressure, which is why your story on the mission it's kind of surprises me. Well, I got meaner on my mission. Yeah. Most people come home softy. I came home toofty. No, you kidding me. Okay. No, it was Mountain Crest because it was a high school basketball or a baseball game. Well, there were two then, because we're going to be able to get the. Well, we had the one, but I didn't, nobody on our team got on that altercation. We let the guy just get beat up. You were right, because it was a venture. Yeah, because we knew he was going to get hit with the pitch. Yeah. He had hit a couple home runs. He says, if they hit me, I'm charging, and we also know we're don't do this. Yeah. Sure enough, they hit him in the small of the back. He charged the mound. Their whole team dogpiled on top of the bottom. And you guys just were watching. Yeah, that's on you. This is but the one Mountain Crest that was Ben Loman. It was against Ben Loman. Yeah. Exactly. We had just gotten the third out. I was playing first base. They we got the third out. They had a guy on third running into home. Got the out. He plowed over our catcher, Mike Baldwin. Yeah. Mike Baldwin gets up in his face. They start going at it. I come running in because I'm at first base, being close, and I see their whole team in their dugout come filing out of the dugout, flying towards the melee. And I'm the closest one there. So, like you, my mind just snapped. My glove went down. I went running over there, grabbed the first guy, had him pinned up against the backstop. I was giving him some uppercuts. I watched Budge throw a guy against the backstop. Oh my god. I did uppercut, and then the ump grabs me and grabs both my arms and has me pinned back, and the guy just clocks me across the face. Oh my god. That's a cheap bug.
SPEAKER_00That's cheap. That's cheap. That's a cheap.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, you would land it like seven shots. I threw some good work. I saw I saw Budge throw a guy. I mean, literally threw the guy up against the backstop. Really? But the but this was all happening in slow motion. I'm in the outfield. Okay, so I'm coming from a lot further away. I didn't even really notice. I kind of I don't know if I blacked out, but I glanced to my left and I saw David Webb just booking it to get in. Like he was in. Like Dave was ready to fight. He was like, he was like, he just needed a reason. Yeah, yeah. Just give me just one reason. And he was booking in there. And I remember just almost like freezing and looking around like. What do I do? What do I do? Timmy in the whale. What is it, Lassie? What is it? What is it? And it was over before I really came to. So I I I'm embarrassed to this day. Don't be embarrassed. Oh, I am. I mean, I should have helped. I could have used some backup. Yeah, you could be. I mean, you should have let out the come out at the ump, man. I was a long ways away. David Webb was just as far as me. He seemed to make it. So I don't know if he actually we'll have to ask him if he made it in there. I don't know if he was in there or not, because I don't remember who was in there. I just remember my little circle of chaos.
SPEAKER_00But both, both, did like literally in the movies, both dugouts just file off. Oh yeah, they all file. I mean, how do you break something like that up?
SPEAKER_01Hey, hey, hey, guys, hey, hey, hey, let's let's not get carried away.
SPEAKER_00What do they okay? When something like that happens, do you all cool off for a minute? And then does the game continue?
SPEAKER_01Well, it didn't it must be.
SPEAKER_00I think it did continue. I think they didn't call it that I remember. I don't remember either. Okay. I think we all just cooled down. I guess they could have. I mean, they could have that's it. We're not that's it. I've only seen that happen in church ball, like basketball. Yeah, yeah, it just doesn't work. It's every weekend. Exactly. No, that's not gonna work. Well, that's wild. Um during the break, we were talking a little bit about uh and it and it piqued my interest a little bit about uh uh a fugitive game. This this well, we used to like to make movies.
SPEAKER_01Okay. I mean very pictures. I can do it. This was years ago. Yeah, Dave's got like a channel 5 camera up on his shoulder. He had the handheld. What? Was he rich? I had one of the big shoulder ones. Yeah, he goes up on the shoulder like this.
SPEAKER_00And you got the eye piece coming over. You're like, yeah, we're back in the studio, back in the field with uh with Buds.
SPEAKER_01Jason Antie had uh video camera, and we put that thing to use. We did. You guys did some funny stuff. One time I wasn't there, but I saw the video, and they had created a dummy. Like the it was life size. Yeah, and dressed him up in some clothes. Dressed him up in some clothes, made it look like it was one of them. Okay. So you had him on the top of the roof. Yeah, with him. Like, hey, you're getting a little too close up there, and then they try to splice it to make it look like he fell off the roof. Okay, yeah. A little straight tied to him.
SPEAKER_00We pulled him.
SPEAKER_01A little fancy editive, creative editing. I still remember the video because Budge is filming and doing the commentary. Hey Jace, you're getting a little too close up there. They pulled Jason down off the roof. Didn't he land in the basketball hoop? He landed in the basketball hoop. He did one out of a tree.
SPEAKER_00What was the do you remember the what was the storyline? What was the plot for the story?
SPEAKER_01Well, those ones, nothing, but we did do a fugitive, and the movie The Fugitive had come out pretty decently. Big fan. Yeah, well, we tried to remake it in a way. I mean, it was only a scene. Yeah. But we needed a fight scene and we needed a chase scene. Yeah. The chase scene happened behind a snowmobile. Yes. Right? And somebody, I think Duncley, we had pulled a conveniently there was a rope connected to the snowmobile. Of course. So Jason is the fugitive, and he comes running around the corner, jumps on his snowmobile, and starts taking off. Now, one of us, were you on were you recording on the side? I was filming on the back of the snowmobile. Yeah, so he's I'm straddling backwards. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Filming with the camera. Like, what could possibly go wrong?
SPEAKER_01So Ryan comes around the corner and dives onto this rope as it's driving away. So now he's being pulled. Okay. And I come around the corner under through the ditch, and I'm just trying to chase. Yeah. Really? In the scene, so to speak. Yes, yes. So that happens, and then we get to a point where there's going to be this fight scene between Ryan Dunkley and Hansie. Yeah. But we needed blood. Yeah. We needed to be able to create some blood. Yeah. Go ahead. So how are we going to create the blood? We thought about ketchup, but we ended up with the strawberry Nesquick. Yeah, strawberry nesliquik.
SPEAKER_00First of all, delicious.
SPEAKER_01No, that's gross. I think it was probably in the pantry because nobody would eat it or drink it. Oh, I love it. I love it. It's fantastic.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's great. Dave was a little like he's got a very sensitive palate. Yeah, I really do. Yeah, I'm not going to do that garbage. So delicious. Yeah, we'll try it again.
SPEAKER_01Some strawberry Nesquik. So we mixed up a concoction of strawberry Nesquick for Dunkley. Had it in his mouth. He put a full-on. I mean he was so full of it. He's probably blown it at the cheeks looking like a chickmunk. But had it in there, then we did the fight scene. Somebody slow motion clocked him across the face, and you know, he conveniently just spits it out the side of his mouth, you know, for the effects. You have that, don't you? Don't you have that video?
SPEAKER_00Okay, that was my next question. It exists. Because I would like to, I mean, I'm hoping that it's been digitized off of the old VHS.
SPEAKER_01I don't know that it's a good idea. I think it has because you well, unless because I was went and saw you in Austin a couple years ago and you played. We pulled them out. It was that we had our lip sync. We did a lip sync video for school.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I don't even know how much money I'd pay to see this.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it was fantastic. Yeah, I bet it was. Jason had a drum set.
SPEAKER_00But like a tele show? Like a like a class that we were a project that we had to do.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Everybody else had to did it in class. They lip sync something. We're like, no, we're we're gonna do this right. Yeah, we're doing this right. So we did we Jason had a had a drum set, and he also had where did we get that guitar that had no strings? Was it his? No. It was his. We found a guitar that was. Okay. No. Okay. Guitar heroes. It was an old guitar hero. No, no, that was way before then. Come on. This was a real guitar, I think. It was a black one. Yeah. And it had no strings, but we we were lip syncing. It didn't matter. You didn't need to play. Yeah, no, yeah, exactly. But we needed a microphone stand. Do you remember where we got that? No. We stole it out of my church. But we knew it. We knew we'd get a time.
SPEAKER_00You're fine. Okay, good.
SPEAKER_01And we took it back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I just knew the door you could get into if you needed to get into the church.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you just pulled the door on the right way. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01You yank on it. You yank on it? So, anyways, we got that. And so the first First act, wasn't it? Well, we set up the studio above Jason's garage. So it's in the upstairs of the garage. We hung black Viz Queen down from the ceiling, you know, so we had this nice black, shiny plastic before us, set up the drums, had the guitars. So first it was Jason. Yeah, the first the first number was uh welcome to the jungle. Now, do you remember that Axel Rose in the video? I think he's wearing a chest protector. Where's the chest protector? The catcher's chest protector. Really? Which makes no sense. But Jason had a chest protector. Of course he did. So he's Axel with a wig. With the long wig straight down. Budge is is slash. He's got this top hat on, this wig covering almost everything except for the fake cigarette he has hanging out of his mouth. Didn't your mom get mad at you for that? She's mad at me this day. She's her lips to this day. This is gonna relive it now. I was so excited about the video. You know, we just we killed this project. Watch this. She couldn't get past cigarette. Uh-uh. Well, hey. That seems unfair. Even the very piece of paper.
SPEAKER_00He you know he rolled it nice and tight. This day and age, I actually saw this just the other day. Like, it's a little something called Sig Newton's. I'm just showing him a picture, guys. I just saw this on a Facebook feed. It looks like a candy cigarette, and it looks actually like a box of crayons, but it looks delicious. It looks like you know sig newtons, anyway. Sorry. Would you ever eat a fig newton? Oh, I love fig newton. Why? I love the Muslim buddies, all right.
SPEAKER_01I'm about to eat a fig newton if you pay me a dollar. Are you into on a late night? Just crack open a nice fresh sleeve of fig newton's.
SPEAKER_00That was delicious. I'll eat a fig newton, I'll eat a strawberry newton.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, you guys are old. I'm going to get some Sig Newton's turns. Exactly. Although I found myself eating Twizzlers the other day with them in my finger like a cigarette. Like a cigarette, like a small. That's weird, right? But it was delicious.
SPEAKER_00Kind of. It's kind of weird. That's kind of I'm sorry. I feel like I derailed that, but I mean, did you win the did you win the award or the project? It was just a good thing.
SPEAKER_01When then Budge and I did some uh Twisted Sister, that's the last time you're gonna catch makeup on this face. Yeah, we had makeup the whole time.
SPEAKER_00That actually really surprised Twisted.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I am a I have a problem with face paint. He put on a good show, though. Didn't you? But we had uh we had the face paint on. And uh that one was was it I wanna rock!
SPEAKER_00And we're not gonna take it. Yeah, we're not gonna take it. We put on a we put on classic rock. Yeah. I actually met uh member of Quiet Riot once. Really? Was he quiet? Uh he actually was very dose. He was a white Washington, DC on my internship back there years ago. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01How would you know? Did he just say, oh, by the way, I'm a member of Quiet Riot?
SPEAKER_00Well, first of all, you could tell because he had the long, luscious locks that were just hanging down as I mean. Well, I know I know my rockers. He's one and two. Quiet Riot. Quiet Riot. Don't know his name is but lead singer for Quiet Riot. Um not quite as cool as Greth Brooks, but could they best friends with him? Basically. Can you name me one Quiet Riot song right now? Um We're not gonna take it.
SPEAKER_02Come on, Feather! No!
SPEAKER_00It took me a minute, but then it can you name two? Is there I mean that's really the same. I only did the one. But I can picture, I can picture the the tape case. Yeah, I remember that. Oh man, I just laughed so good. That was good stuff.
SPEAKER_01Um, let me ask you this. How much time do we got? We got 20 minutes.
SPEAKER_002025 into this. Let's let's we got some time.
SPEAKER_01If you let's let's each name one thing you never want to do again in your life. Oh god, that's a tough one. Well, would you want me to start to kind of get you?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, kind of get a feel for it.
SPEAKER_01I I I'm I started to realize how maybe negative I am because on my list is huge. Yeah, I think. I don't want to I can't think of it. You know, budgetier, we're glass half full kind of people. Yeah, I'm thinking I want to do that again. Well, I've told you that my new I had a couple New Year's resolutions.
SPEAKER_00Yes, and I and you busted it.
SPEAKER_01You broke one for me this the two weeks ago.
SPEAKER_00I did not break it for you. Um folks, I'm sorry to admit this.
SPEAKER_01That's true. I was six months clean. You was the goal was don't take my shirt off in a public setting. Yeah, seems fine. You know, when when a grown man shouldn't take his shirt off. Right. Yeah. I'll be danged. Main Street, Logan, my shirt was off because he took his off.
SPEAKER_00I did take my shirt off. So we were driving down, it felt kind of like we were in high school again, like we were cruising Maine. Where were we just coming from El Toro Viejo? Probably. It makes you do some weird things. It does, exactly. We were coming from dinner, there was the six of us. Of course, we were each in our own cars. I I did listen. The statute came over. Yeah, and the statute of limitations has not passed because this was like six weeks ago. Not even. I ripped my shirt. First of all, I'm driving my truck and my seatbelt is on, and it's well, it's just a t-shirt, but still my seatbelt is on. It's not easy to get your shirt off while you're driving a vehicle. But I did it, and then I had to, I did it. I did it. I'm like, heather, take the wheel. Take the wheel, I've got to get the shirt. Then we're like on Maine and Second North, and I need to get out in front of Dave, so I passed Jenny and Cray on the right, like through the turn lane.
SPEAKER_01It wasn't completely legal.
SPEAKER_00It wasn't completely legal, but then I had to get up there next to Dave, and then I was just all casually. I'm telling you, folks, it is never not funny.
SPEAKER_01It's so clear. Anytime you're a grown man, just take your shirt off randomly. I drove her all the way home with that. I promise you, people will laugh.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And it's very free. The windows were down, I drove all the way home with it. As like skinny dipping on Lake Tahoe. So comfortable. I'm sure it was like that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But uh my SWAT was fine. Yeah. I sweat it down. Your Swattens.
SPEAKER_01He pulls up next to me, and I'm you know, you just drive in your car, and I look over, just and it takes, it's always a two-glance thing. Watch. Next time you take your shirt off, which I'm sure you will. Yeah. Somebody will glance and they're like, hey, and then you'll he'll be, they'll they'll get this look on their face like, Double tip, is his shirt off? Oh, what the? And he'll look off. Sure enough, I look over, his shirt's off. Well, at that point.
SPEAKER_00You have no choice.
SPEAKER_01I I had no choice. You have no choice. But I didn't even think about my New Year's resolution. I didn't either. That was the last thing from my mind. But if you would have, I would have liked to have hoped, you would have thought, I can't take my shirt off because Dave will follow suit. Next thing you know, my shirt's off. And I wasn't driving though. Susie was driving, which gave me the liberty of pretty much standing outside our window.
SPEAKER_00He he literally threw three-quarters of his body. Yeah, I feel like Susie must have been in the back. She was driving, but she must have been holding your ankles. I was belly button out. Yeah, you belly button. North of the belly button was exposed.
SPEAKER_01Main Street. I'm looking behind us at Jenny, just having no shirt on. And then I get back in the car. And by the way, it was a beautiful night.
SPEAKER_00It was it felt like a big thing.
SPEAKER_01The wind and your hard bread hair is wonderful. Oh, nice. It's nice. And so you're driving, it was it was great, but then it dawned on me, and it was. I broke my New Year's resolution and I was six months clean.
SPEAKER_00But and I blame you. You should. I'll take the blame, but I just prefer you say thank you. Because guess what? Like most of my New Year's resolutions were broken like before January 31st rolled around. Well, uh, January 2nd.
SPEAKER_01I I gave him a resolution like, don't go to McDonald's. Well, which is ridiculous. Yeah. I mean, come on, it's a good thing. You don't understand.
SPEAKER_00He gets a present from our local McDonald's. I do every year. It's a loaf of bread, and it's not, I mean, it's not like they're baking it, they bought it. You know the franchise owner or? Well, Bill, he's a good friend. Bill, but he's not like a friend that owns a McDonald's. He became a friend because I frequent McDonald's. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's the only reason he goes there so much that they know him. Oh, well that is. He could go up and say, the best. Don't have the yuche. And they'll get him his large Coke with extra ice and his and his sausage McMuffin. He exists. So delicious. Sausage McMuffin. It's so good. Are you a fan of McDonald's? I love McDonald's. If somebody says they don't like McDonald's, they're ridiculous. I don't believe that. No, they're like, I think that's.
SPEAKER_00No, that's that's it's just not true. Have you ever had a fillet of fish? No. I have not had the fillet. I get like like two times, three times a year. I just need my fix. That is disgusting. It's like the McRib. Yeah. You throw the McRib down too? First of all, the McRib is a treat, no matter. I mean, I can't believe it. Do you see his light? His eyes just light up like a Christmas tree. I feel like it's like the like the oozy, delicious barbecue sauce, the thing that I think is pork, but I know it's not. It's molded something. It's pressed into the shape of a rib, but none of my ribs look like that. I don't really know how to do it. I just know it is. I do now. With a few pickles and onions, I the McRib is actually a national treasure. I don't care for the pickles.
SPEAKER_01I used to always pick off the pickles. Budge would take care of those people. And Heather loves too.
SPEAKER_00Heather will always like, can I have your pickles? I'm like, sure. Because I'm a generous husband, of course, give her. Sure, sure.
SPEAKER_01We used to remember when you used to get a cheeseburger for 49 cents. Oh yeah. Do you remember before that baseball game we played down in I want to say it was Taylorsville area? We went and got there was a pile of them. Oh, we had a stack, and it was an Evan an Evanston, Wyoming turnover. A stack of cheeseburgers. We stacked the cheeseburger drive through. I don't know how many we ordered, but we were in the Nissan Max. Yes, I remember that. Yes, and we had a pile of cheeseburgers in the console. It had to have been a foot, foot and a half high. I bet you we had seven to eight cheeseburgers.
SPEAKER_00Oh, stop it. I mean, because I am, first of all, I'm salivating. Yeah. Second of all, like you are describing basically my vision of heaven. Yeah, it was wonderful. Like stacks of cheap cheeseburgers everywhere. Remember the great cartoon um Popeye? Yeah. Bluetooth was a bad guy, but what was the guy that was always eating? Always hamburgers. He had the hamburger.
SPEAKER_01He had the plate of burgers. Yeah, yeah. Picture in his cheeseburger. I gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. I think that was his song. Okay, so yeah, that was that was us that day. And you know, I got mocked the other day for I was with my sister and brother-in-law, and we got a I had a cheeseburger, and I opened it, and there was cheese paper. You know what I'm talking about? Oh, cheese paper. It's like a little piece of cheese stuck to the paper. That's like delicious. The best you used a fingernail.
SPEAKER_00It's like that's equivalent to finding $20 in your ski park. Yeah, something like that. Yeah, it's so good.
SPEAKER_01I I opened it up, I had plenty of cheese paper, and I looked, I ooh, cheese paper. And my sister and my brother-in-law looked at me like, are you crazy? I'm like, you guys don't like cheese paper? Wait, which sister I want to know? Amy. Gosh damn it. But isn't it amazing? I mean, we've been to McDonald's a million times in our lives, right? I've had seven billion cheeseburgers over the course of our entire lives. But when you still get the cheeseburger and you unravel that yellow, delicious paper, don't you get giddies? No. Without question. It's like you're it's like Christmas all over you.
SPEAKER_00And then it gives you that little piece of cheese paper. Oh my gosh. See, there's so many good things about this cheeseburger that we're talking about. And if I'm ever feeling, you know, extra gregarious, I'll go with a double, the McDouble. I I'm I'm straight up McDouble nowadays. I do love the double because it's just it's hardly. Well, the burger to bun ratio is better than the just the six. It's true, it's fantastic. And the nice thing about McDonald's have got a lot of things dialed in, but it is the easiest hamburger to eat whilst driving.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, I won't go to In and Out if I'm gonna go. No, because it's all over. It's all over. But McDonald's is a great in-the-car.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_01But guys, I will stand by my I love it. I feel terrible an hour after.
SPEAKER_00See, and I don't really feel great fantastic. I could go right now. What time is it? Oh, it's probably close. Well, we have to go with the downtown one. But the only problem that I'll figure out like Dave says that he loves cheeseburgers, but if you loved them as much as me, and I'll say if you loved them as much as Budge, your your stomach, your constitution, by this point in your life, should be able to handle it. It should. So the only thing that I can figure out is we're gonna have to get you more. My body is pushing back. My mind says it's called it's called intuitive eating.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. I know. I'm intuitively thinking, hmm, that cheeseburger is not good. My intuition says yes. Yes. Now my stomach says, What are you doing? Whoa. This is not good for you.
unknownYeah, right.
SPEAKER_01And it, you know, look at me. You're beautiful. You look great. You look great, Scotty. You're good friends, both of you. Good, good friends. Well, we didn't even get into my questions about what we don't want to do. We can do that another time. Well, do that another time. But why don't you drop some of those down for us and send them in? Yeah, I will. Via email or just actually.
SPEAKER_00Do you have any budge? Anything you want to share with us? Any any parting words of wisdom. Parting words, or even confessions.
SPEAKER_01I'd like to get kind of a let's bring the house down a little, like a Delilah type program. Budge, why don't you get on in here? Yeah, pull that, pull that pull that mic a little closer.
SPEAKER_02Get in here.
SPEAKER_01Hey, but can I you know one of my favorite sounds in life is when you mix up the mac and cheese? You know when you're and it goes like this? That's the greatest sound ever. Well, first of all. And I hope it came through loud and clear.
SPEAKER_00I hope it did too. That is the sound of deliciousness. It really is. I need actually one box of mac and cheese about four times a year. Craft mac and cheese.
SPEAKER_01How about mac and cheese party pizza, 11 o'clock at night?
SPEAKER_00That's trouble, right? It is trouble. I mean, that should sell for me. Yeah. But uh I think I'm just staple.
SPEAKER_01I I'd like to, I don't want to admit that, but we'll do it once in a while, and it's not good. I mean it's delicious.
SPEAKER_00It's yeah. I mean, when you say not good, I'm not sleeping for it's gonna be a few hours. And that's okay.
SPEAKER_01You can do it on the weekends. Yeah, do it on Friday. We'll do it on the weekends, nobody else's business. No, we've tiny. Tinalkins. So we were bringing it down. Yeah, let's bring it down. But why don't you leave us with some sort of word of wisdom? Nothing like, you know, I believe Louisiana is the Pelican state. Ask not what your country could do for you. Oh, I tell you what. Ask what you could do for your country.
SPEAKER_00I like it. I mean, I like it.
SPEAKER_01Isn't that what Fletch says?
SPEAKER_02That's glad.
SPEAKER_01You feel like making a statement. A statement? Ask not what you can do. That's not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country.
SPEAKER_00Are you a big fan of the Fletch movies? Oh, he can quote it like I can. That's a classic.
SPEAKER_01So if there's a word of wisdom, dial in a couple of rentals for Fletch and Fletch lives, and life will be better. And with that, Butch, thank you for being a part of our program. Well, listen, a real treat to be here. I mean, this has been one of the treasures of my life.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and it and let me tell you what, buddy, this is only going to get better the years and years that I I don't know if it's syndication, I don't know how that works. Like when people pick us up, you know what I mean? Like 40 years from now. Yeah, 40 years from now, but um this will be a watershed moment in your life, a red letter day, and uh, I think you'll trace back to this moment miraculous things for your life.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Good good luck going forward. Thank you. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. Thanks again, folks, for listening to another episode of the Small Towns Podcast. We're pretty sure we've changed your life for the better. If not, well, we'll try again next time.
