How are you doing, buddy?
SPEAKER_00I don't know how comfortable I am with this situation.
SPEAKER_01I know. Listen, we need to probably just tell our studio audience, now that we have a studio audience, like this is the first time that's a good idea. There's no studio.
SPEAKER_00There's no studio. We may have an audience.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00This is my face on the World Wide Web.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if I like it.
SPEAKER_01Well, listen, so we're obviously recording because we're going to put this on our YouTube channel. That that just blows my mind. Well, you and I are influencers. Oh well, I you like to think so. Uh I think it's also important to just make sure. I mean, everybody knows this generally, but I'd like people to know that the camera really does add like 150 pounds.
SPEAKER_00At least 150 pounds. I I was thinking about that too when you said this is going YouTube. Yeah. YouTubeish. Yeah, YouTube-ish. YouTube. Um, that I think most people who listen to this pod at least have an idea of who what one of us looks like. Right, right. But for all your people that don't know, I can just see him. Oh. Oh.
SPEAKER_01That's what that guy looks like. And the probably your friends will be like, huh, I he sounded much more handsome.
SPEAKER_00And much more rugged. I hope I sound rugged. Yeah, you do, you do. But when it comes right down to it, folks, this is it.
SPEAKER_01This is me. I think it's important that we have this though, because our our podcast so often, uh, how do I say this without saying the wrong thing? Turns physical.
SPEAKER_00Meaning it can get a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like remember when you shot the duck that one time? Yep. Like, not a literal duck.
SPEAKER_00Are you gonna be able to work that camera if we need to?
SPEAKER_01You well, probably not today, being the first uh maiden voyage of this. But I do think it just comes right off the Let me ask you this.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Did you wear black on purpose, right, today for this? Yeah, I did. Me too.
SPEAKER_01When I when I woke up this morning, I put this shirt on because I feel like black, I think it's kind of my color.
SPEAKER_00You look great. I feel great. Well, I I I can do you one worse. Okay. I had something completely different on work, and then I thought, well, I have to be on camera. I gotta slim down, so we're going black. Yeah, listen, you look fantastic. Yeah. You look great. We haven't, I mean, our listeners have not seen the top of my head yet. Okay, there it is. There it is. Everybody's staring. Everybody's staring at me now.
SPEAKER_01You know, and we'll oh would you this is kind of a fun thing. That Heather, would you do the honors? There's a little switch on the side.
SPEAKER_00Would love to do the honors. We've had this thing in our little studio for a long time. Well, though, ever since we started, and we've yet to wait. Wait for it. Boom!
SPEAKER_01On air. We are on the air. That probably should actually be like mounted above the door on the outside. Yeah, so people can just calm down. Calm down. Just calm down. Calm down. This is uh again, you're getting a little bit of a look behind the curtain, a little see how the sausage is made, so to speak. But this is in my basement. Um and I think we're gonna see the studio change over the next few weeks, meaning I've got some very cool noise canceling. Oh, wow. Yeah, like tiles. Buddy, this is next level. We are influencers.
SPEAKER_00I feel like I owe you some change or something. Some sort of cash.
SPEAKER_01Listen, we're gonna we're that's we're gonna talk about that today. The the money is just gonna start rolling in any any moment as we are influencers.
SPEAKER_00Look, I don't I do it, I do it for the people. Me too. I don't do it for the money, obviously. It's been over a year we've been doing this, and there's been no money coming in.
SPEAKER_01Okay, listen, have I got a deal for you? Okay. Um, and it and it's only partly, that's only kind of a segue as we start talking about cash. Because there are there are influencers. I mean, we've got people in our neighborhood who who are very profitable with their YouTube channels and things of that nature. Now, again, that's not what we're in it for. Nope. But it is kind of fun to um just pay for a little bit of the uh the the cost and the production of doing this. Just a little bit of the hosting, things of that nature. Now, listen, don't worry, folks, we're not gonna like pass the hat around. But we are, we we thought for this episode that we might do uh I haven't thought of a clever name, but Dave and Jason's favorite things.
SPEAKER_00Or yeah, that'll work. I mean, I don't know if anybody really cares what I like, but I'll share it. Yeah, I'll share it to share it. I mean, when I've when I started, you told me to put a list of other things I like. Yeah, your favorite things. Turns out I'm kind of a dub.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I think the I think I'll be surprised. I don't think that's true.
SPEAKER_00You think?
SPEAKER_01I well, I might be, but we'll see.
SPEAKER_00I think thinking about both of us, yeah, I think you're more of a buyer than me.
SPEAKER_01Like I don't, I don't, yeah, I don't need much.
SPEAKER_00I'm a simple man, I just give me some deodorant. And you know what's interesting is Susie and I asked Susie the same thing because we wanted our we wanted our ladies on this. We did. We we we invited them. They turned us down.
SPEAKER_01They did turn us down. They'll they'll be back. Yeah, they'll be back, but we are still going to include them a little bit tonight, and it'll be fun.
SPEAKER_00Kind of bring on eye candy once in a while. But but uh what I was getting at is it's you know Susie and I have been married now, what, 25 years? Wow, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think that should be like is that like a metal? It's like a like aluminum.
SPEAKER_00Like copper, copper, yeah, probably. But you grow into being a lot like the person that you married, if that makes sense. So Susie grew up, and her mother in law, my mother-in-law, her mom's watching, listening. They are smart with their money. Yes. Susie is a very practical woman. So if I said, Seus, give me some of your favorite things that we could share on the pod. I'm thinking it's gonna be like Charmin. It's gonna be, uh hey, that 12-pack of uh toilet paper down at the Sam's Club is fantastic.
SPEAKER_01Best you can get. I'd only go two ply.
SPEAKER_00I know. So I I don't know. I hope mine are what you're wanting to hear.
SPEAKER_01I think it'll be fun no matter what happens, because as we were preparing this, my the thought that came into my mind is is like, listen, if Oprah can do this, I mean she just lists, she just released her list of favorite things. When she had her like her daytime talk show, she would do this. My mom is a huge was a huge Oprah fan. Um that's now I feel like I've got to explain that because if she were still with us, she would still be a huge Oprah fan. Yeah, she would be. You know what I mean? So anyway, so we love Oprah. So but Oprah would do these favorite things. Yeah, love your mother. Well, yeah, fantastic. I mean, I'm a big fan. But she does this favorite things. So I'm like, listen, being you know, having having the platform that we have, buddy. Now I love to share my favorite things to uh a lot of people all the time, and we're we're gonna get into this, but um kind of I thought maybe the format could be I've got a list of a few things. I brought some props I'd like to show you what I've got. Yeah, it's kind of a big thing. Well, maybe, maybe it could very well could be true, buddy. Um and then what listen, we want we want to share this with the world, so we're introducing uh a little a little addition to our website, and it's called smalltownsfavorites.com.
SPEAKER_00Huh?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so small townsfavorites. It's brand new, buddy. You got a brand new so we're gonna talk about these things, and if you like, if you think, hey, you know what, those guys are onto something, you go to that website and then you just simply you click on it, and it takes you to the spot, Amazon, Target, wherever, and you can buy it. Now, guys, make no mistake, this doesn't cost you extra. Do we get a little kickback? You better believe we do. It's called Yeah, we do, buddy. There's a term out there called affiliate marketing. Don't know what it means. Affiliate marketing is what I'm gonna say is like the when you ask somebody what do you do for a living? Like, maybe it's still they still say this. I'm a consultant. I consult. You make a lot of money, you're not quite sure what you do.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I want to be that guy.
SPEAKER_01I mean too.
SPEAKER_00And I'll tell anybody what they want to like my idea of a business called Do you know what your problem is? That could be a whole new podcast. I'll tell you. You know what I'm finding? Do I look at that thing on the notion? I mean, you remember in the office when every once in a while they'll give it one of these. Like, don't break the fourth wall. Yeah, yeah, I I want to. And it's the Ricky Bobby thing, like, what what what do I do with my hands? I just don't know. I just can I itch my nose. Can I be real? Be real. Be real. I'll keep my shirt on. Please. I'm going to keep my shirt on. It should have been fun. I mean, if we just came on the air for the first time and my shirt was off. Yeah. Fun for me, fun for you, not for fun, not for anybody else.
SPEAKER_01I find myself, because I'm looking at the camera here, but then I've also got the screen there. So I don't know quite exactly what to do or where to look. Um maybe we should.
SPEAKER_00Okay, we can only go up from here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly. So I think this is gonna be fun. But I think we'll record every time we do this. Might as well. Yeah, YouTube. Yeah, you have no idea. And I think we'll get more and more comfortable with it. You should be comfortable with this because you like you're on the radio all the time. I got a face for radio. You've heard the same. But it's not, I know I ran I realized now we're we're talking about a camera, but that's okay. That's okay. Um, so again, so we're gonna share these things. We're gonna share a few of our wives' favorite things because they wouldn't be here with us. But I'm gonna I'm gonna just jump right in with one of my favorite things, and it may be.
SPEAKER_00Are we gonna start high high high cost items? Are you?
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna go just like I'm gonna just random.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01Do you guys that okay? I would like it. Go whatever order you want, dude. Absolutely. Again, small towns favorites. That's towns with an S, Favorites with an S, smalltownsfavorites.com. Okay, so these things right right here. Okay. I brought two because there's a couple different things. Now this is it feels like we're doing like an infomercial.
SPEAKER_00You really did, I did.
SPEAKER_01I did. And that one's full, this one's empty because I'm using it right now. Can I smell it? Please. This is one of my favorite things. I'm not kidding. It's a body wash. Yeah, it is. It's a body wash. Smells like a man. Well, what's the what's the scent? What's it called? Body wash. Oh, stone. Stone. It's a man's body wash.
SPEAKER_00That really is. Smells nice, doesn't it? Yeah. Now drink this one. Now tell our listeners this. Yeah. There's no way you're not using a loofah when you use this stuff. Why I you without question, I'm using a loofah. I mean, you're offsetting the fact that it's for a man by getting out your pink loofah. You can't just like pour this all over me.
SPEAKER_01Sure you can. Use your hands. No. Just these hands cannot exfoliate. You're gonna have like a man's hands, like Cray's hands probably are natural exfoliations because they're rough. Well, this one's gone. Yeah, but smell it, though, smell it.
SPEAKER_00That's nice. What's the flavor? Well, I'm not gonna eat it. No, the scent is probably a revital it?
SPEAKER_01I think citrus peel. Citrus peel. Is that the name of it? I don't think that's the name of it. It isn't? No, I think you're it is. This is Grove right there. Grove. See, this one's so this one is stone that's. Oh Grove, gotcha. So this is an invigorating scent of minerals and citrus. And this is a revitalizing scent of citrus peel. Now I listen. It does smell nice. Oh, it is nice. I'll tell you what, it's like a it's like I'm frolicking through a an orange orchard.
SPEAKER_00A grove.
SPEAKER_01A grove of citrus.
SPEAKER_00And it just and it washes your mangrove.
SPEAKER_01This one with your loofah. With my loofah. This one, you know, we can this smells like a stone. It's so good. But um maybe leave that open between the between the bullets in here. It's getting a little kind of waffle.
SPEAKER_00Give it a little squeeze.
SPEAKER_01A little one-two. Little hoot hoop. We would just throw them all off. Like that'd be nice. Okay. That'd be nice. Um, so again, two of my I I know it's funny, but I do like I have used body wash for a lot of years, but I came across these probably six months ago. I got several cents big fan. But this is my favorite.
SPEAKER_00Those are nice. They are nice. I'm always on the lookout for a nice body wash. So I went to body wash because I share a bathroom with, well, have shared a bathroom with three boys. Now two, as I have one living in Africa. He's not sharing. Send him some body wash, then it smells like right now. But uh my youngest, who's now 12, just the other day, we ran out of body wash. Oh. Well, I know, but it's not that big of a deal. So, because we have some bars of soap. So I went and got a bar of soap and put it in the little tray. Okay, fair. Now I went to body wash originally because he feels I don't know what it is about seeing that bar of soap, but he feels like he's got to dig out the middle of it with his fingers. Well, I don't understand it. Well, 12 years old, I'm thinking, okay, he's through that stage. Literally, we hadn't had one back on that thing for years. Yeah. I put it on there, first time he's in that tub, shower, shub. Shub, yeah. He digs out a hole in it.
SPEAKER_01I'm like, well, guess he's not ready. This doesn't surprise me at all because the phrase that instantly came into my mind as soon as you said that was this truism. To a man with a hammer, everything is a nail.
SPEAKER_00That's him.
SPEAKER_01So if he's got a bar of soap there, he's like, why would I not just dig through it?
SPEAKER_00Dig the middle of it out and make it into this ring. It drives me crazy.
SPEAKER_01As a kid, I remember not kid, I was in college for crying out loud, but I went over to um some girls' apartments and they had a beautiful candle sitting in the center of their kitchen table with three wicks. It was a big old candle. Yeah, that's a big candle. To the side of the candle was a box of matches. So, Dave, what do you think I did? You lit them all three of them. Why would I not? I don't know. And they're freaking- No, no, no, no, no, that's not a candle that you light. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It's like my brother-in-law Jake got in trouble for drying his hands off on a kitchen towel that apparently was decorative. I don't. If the towel is there, use it. Use it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm with you. Okay. What else you got back in? Um, you got some things.
SPEAKER_00It's like you got Mary Poppins' bag back here.
SPEAKER_01I think we're gonna just keep this, like at least I'm gonna start with um, you know, a little bit of my morning routine.
unknownOkay. Okay.
SPEAKER_01I wasn't gonna do that, but I'm going to this is all I don't know which way to go. You know. It's okay. I can see you. Yeah, it's good. Um now this is gonna sound crazy, but I love this stuff. Let me get in there. Yeah, get in there. Shave secret.
SPEAKER_00I've heard of people, of guys that have beards that have the oil.
SPEAKER_01The is this beard oil? No, it's not beard oil. And now I realize this is gonna look a little funny, particularly as you're seeing me for the first time. I have a beard, but I still shave. Yeah, open that up, buddy.
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_01But I still shave, like, my I shave my neck. Of course you do. And and occasionally I I mean I will shave all this, you know what I mean? But this this replaces this right here, buddy. What's this goo? This uh may oh maybe a sample. Oh my gosh, I did not know this because I'm here to tell you this sample right here. I mean you can't close that up, but like that would last you easily a week, if not longer. Because this stuff, and I can't remember who turned me on to it. What it is, you you put you really gotta get all have you do you like it? Yeah, it just depends. Yeah, I mean, but basically it takes the place of shaving cream, right? Yeah, so you just put five, you have to water is the key though. You your face has got to be really wet. I shave in the shower, I just like it. So you gotta get all wet, and then you put three or four. I think the instructions call for three or four. I usually do five or six just because you know well, you're a big guy. I'm a generous guy. Three to five drops in a moist palm and massage into the area to be shaved. So just you just kind of rub that in to your face, and you it doesn't lather up. I mean it's oil, right? It doesn't oil, but I am here to tell you, buddy, that like right here can be kind of a tender zone, like when I shave with a razor, and like it kind of tears it up when you go against the grain. Yeah, this stuff, fantastic.
SPEAKER_00I actually had some of that years ago. You did, and I did really like it. Okay, yeah, it's good stuff. Yeah so you're gonna put a a link on this smalltownsfavorites.com. Yeah. And it's gonna take people to this exact stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I think for every bottle that somebody buys, I think we'll probably get like a half a penny.
SPEAKER_00Whoa.
SPEAKER_01Guys, we don't that's not why we're doing it for, but it this is just kind of funny to do that. But it's not like Shave's secret called you and said, hey, let's plug this on your thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just this is what you like.
SPEAKER_01This is just what I like. We got nothing. Let me tell you what I don't like. Listen, I'm a big fan of so ooh, I I mean I shouldn't. I just said I love shave oil, but I would like to re-look at this packaging. Because look at that. Like, that's a whole lot of waste. I mean, it's just a tiny box, you know what I mean? But listen, I mean, I'm gonna recycle it, but I mean, what's what's the point of all that extra? Yeah, no, we didn't need all that. Didn't need it. No, probably not. Maybe I had to put the spare in there, so maybe there's a reason for it. I don't know. But anyways, I like that. You gotta listen, I've taken over the show.
SPEAKER_00No, but I kind of thought it was gonna go this way because, like I told you, I'm kind of boring. I don't really need a lot. What do you got? I try I really started, I I had to get into like my Amazon cart and see what have I even done. What's your favorite things? Yeah, exactly. You're a simple man. I'm a simple man. You know what I've been using lately that's kind of awesome? So a year or two ago, Susie got onto these um little drink things like after her workouts and stuff. Oh, sure, I got you. I don't even know what they're called. I feel like our ladies were talking about them right now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like after workout or something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, well, maybe we ought to put on that one of these days. But she's got a little stir thing. Like, I what's the matter with just a spoon, you know? And just well, that she's got a frother. Have you heard of that? Oh, I like so it's like it's like battery operated. Yeah. Yeah, and it's got a little almost like a little wire whisk thing at the bottom. It's just little. Okay. So you put it down in there, and that thing just goes nutso, and it creates a well it stirs it for you, but it also creates a little froth at the top. Fantastic. Do you use that for all of your hot drinks? Well, I don't have like a lot of hot drinks to drink, but I've been drinking some hot chocolate in the morning because it's getting cold. Yeah, it's cold. Um, and just with a little Stephen's hot chocolate mix, but don't be getting me the kind with the mint. We've gone over that. We've gone through that. And I don't need like a pumpkin spice one. Oh. Just give me a milk chocolate, yeah. Hot chocolate. Fantastic.
SPEAKER_01And you gotta make it with milk. Listen, uh I don't know if Steven's hot chocolate was meant to be on this list because it's one of my favorite things. I keep talking about it. We better write it down. But write it on the list. Um do you uh my daughter, oldest daughter Kennedy, we had this conversation just two nights ago. When you're making Stevens Hot Cocoa, which is fantastic. Right. Are you like one or two or three or four scoops? You know what? It's more than you think. It is more than you think, but I still do I just regular cup, I just do two scoops. I'm three heaping. Well, I'll do the heaping, but Kennedy will also do the three or four, and it's not bad, but like, come on, buddy. Easy on it? Easy.
SPEAKER_00Well, I need it to have some chocolate to it. You put any creamer in that after you do it? I don't need it. That frother almost cream, like and I and I do it with milk. I I heat up with milk.
SPEAKER_01Then if you're heating up milk, you don't need no creamer. No, I don't think so. No, I don't think so either. I don't think so. Well, I so that frother, yeah, I do like that. Um, this is they can't be expensive. I can't believe it.
SPEAKER_00I can't imagine that's more than 15 bucks.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm that'd be a great stocking stuffer. Great stocking stuff, these are all great stocking stuffers. I didn't even think about that because it is we are like, in fact, we're gonna we'll make sure this pod gets released like before Black Friday. We'll well we're we're we're we help the people. Yeah, we help the people. This for so you all of our lady listeners, I feel like I just now I looked at him. I don't want to look at the camera anymore. I will when I need to.
SPEAKER_00When you need to be serious, you look at it and then you come away. Oh, he's serious. Come away.
SPEAKER_01These are good things to put. You got you want me to go? You got it. Yeah, go again. Go ahead. Go ahead. Do it. Um well I gotta share this because this is something that we talked about before. In fact, we gave one of these away. I got one in the car, forgot to bring it in. Stanley mug. Stanley. Those are nice. Oh, now I'm looking at the camera.
SPEAKER_00Let me tell you for all of our delicious water. Yeah, that is better for if you have a person in your life that likes to golf. Because that fits in a golf cart. Oh, I agree, actually. It does. I have a bigger one that we got from Target, which is also really awesome. Yeah. But it doesn't fit in a golf cart. I had to get another one just because of the golf cart to go in there.
SPEAKER_01Same thing, like this one. Like, um, I noticed that this fits in my truck a little better as well. Again, just a cup holder. Yep. It just that is a very nice. Now, these things, you know, Stanley's been around for a long time. Well, oh my goodness, since 1913. That really wasn't part of it, but it just says right there. Oh, right there. So we know it's a long time. That's good. Um, but these things, like, I don't know if it's a regional thing or whatnot, but these things sell like hot cakes. Yeah. So like I will get, I signed up for some advanced notice, and I get a text that said, you know, these mugs are going on sale. And if if you're not on, it's like it's like a Taylor Swift concert ticket. Really? Yeah, I said it. That's what they have you been to a Taylor Swift concert? No, but I'd love to go. I hear they're great. They just uh I just read just before we came down here that uh like Ticketmaster like like you know crashed their site a couple days ago and now they're not even selling anymore to the public. Hmm. Oh, it's crazy. Yeah, it's crazy.
SPEAKER_00So a couple I feel like it was probably almost a year ago. We talked about pants. Oh my goodness. And we've we've we we have spirited debates.
SPEAKER_01We spirited.
SPEAKER_00Uh I am I can't bring myself to paying for Lulu.
SPEAKER_01I and you know what? It's the best money I have ever spent in my life.
SPEAKER_00But my uh I call them Oulus, even though that's not what they're called.
SPEAKER_01Where'd you get them?
SPEAKER_00At Target. Oh. They're fantastic. They're in motion, is what they're called. Okay, are you wearing them right now? You bet I am. No, I'm I'm wearing my uh this is from my fall collection.
SPEAKER_02This is uh these these are my I don't wear these ones very often.
SPEAKER_01Here I need to like just let me turn to the side here a little bit. Let me just kind of get a feel.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, this is the same thing.
SPEAKER_01Is it the four-way stretch? Well, I don't even know what that is. I I it could stretch four ways. I mean like what?
SPEAKER_00One, two, three, four. Comfortable. Well, and very and they're they're tapered and they cost me 40 bucks. You look fantastic. Well, thank you. You look great. This is this I don't wear this color very often. I don't know if it's gonna come through on the YouTube. I like to call it my my Boy Scout green. Yeah, actually, that's that's yeah, four screens are way too dark. I don't know. I mean, I don't wear them a this color a ton, but I got navy blue, I got black, I got tan, I got a cool light blue. We'll put that link on, and I think it's important to put that link. You wanna know why? Because they also have like a skinnier version of them. Okay. And our buddy Nick bought some. Yeah. Too skinny.
SPEAKER_01Well, see, that's that's my and allow me. I I am I'm the Lulu. Okay. So what is these Lulus? Um, I don't really know. They're fantastic gray. I just I mean I love them. They watch it. Like I do a kick, like super yeah! I can do a kick. Um, and if you've met me for five minutes and I'm wearing Lulul's, which I was introduced to Lulu's in 20 and in this is how important it was. I was introduced to Lulu's at the mall. There's several malls in San Diego, a Lululemon store, by just a beautiful and wonderful salesperson. Her name was Kimberly. Like the experience of buying these Lulu's was second to none. The customer service was amazing. I slipped these things on in the uh in the uh dressing room, and it was like it was like I was stepping into a cloud. There were rainbows, voices.
SPEAKER_00You heard voices.
SPEAKER_01I heard voices, it was so amazing. And so, yes, these are a little more expensive than your oulus. I don't think those are what those are. No, they're not. We'll get it, we'll get on the link.
SPEAKER_00That's fine. Can we put like Dave's Ulu's and they'll be like right to Target in motion? I'm telling you, folks, just try them and see it. Well, I need to try your I need to try your Lulus. And I I'm not gonna spend $120 to try them.
SPEAKER_01Well, I wish you, I mean, I wish that we were a little, I mean, I'm size 40 waist here, guys. I'm not afraid to share swimming in them. But but I do, yeah, they're a little more expensive. And I've not tried your Uloos. But let me tell you, but I've tried several similar other types of pants. And I'm here to tell you, buddy, for uh the huskier gentlemen like myself. Um, because well, and Lulu has a slim cut as well, but I just wear the the normal, they're called ABCs. You have to Google what that stands for, but um the ABC classic, they're so fantastic because I got like I got some like big thighs going on, you know what I mean? Big thick muscular buttons. Thank you. And so it just takes a little bit like when I wear pants that you're talking about, they just they don't fit me. They're like to get them big enough to go over my legs, then they're way too big in the waist. And I it's a whole thing. It's a whole thing. But we are going to, and maybe now since we're um you know filming these things, maybe we ought to take the take the camera on the road. To the streets. Well, or to the dressing rooms at Target.
SPEAKER_00What? And Lulu. Hopefully outside the dressing room, then we can come out and pose and stuff, and then I mean I don't think you should be taking it into the dressing room. That's weird.
SPEAKER_01But I've been wearing these. I have I bought four pairs of Lulu's that day in San Diego. I bought every color they had in my size. And Dave, I still have those four pairs. How how long ago? 2016. That's six years ago.
SPEAKER_00Well, I haven't had my Lulus that long.
SPEAKER_01But there's they're going strong. Well, and they are. And I'm gonna tell you, when I buy a new pair of Lulus and I step into them, way better than the old ones. But I tell you what, they the experience there with Kimberly, I'm not even being, I mean, I've re I remember her name after all these years. She was so kind, she was so nice. It was a customer service experience that really helped. Um I mean, that the product speaks for itself, don't get me wrong. Yeah, worth every penny. Well, I'm happy for it.
SPEAKER_00I mean, we're both happy in the pants we're wearing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly. And you know what?
SPEAKER_00That's just fine.
SPEAKER_01You know what? What a just for fun. Now we don't have these here, but but we're gonna have a whole list of our wives' favorite things as well on this smalltownsfavorites.com. And we'll put that link in the show notes and all the social media that we do.
SPEAKER_00Are we gonna put more things on that than we even talk about in the actual show?
SPEAKER_01Well, maybe just if we want to add some extras, that's kind of fun, but for sure let's add some things for our wives. Okay. Because Heather told me one of her favorite things, and it's kind of you anyways. It's some sort of health bar. Ugh I know.
SPEAKER_00If she's saying it's her favorite things, that's saying something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Because a health bar. Like I would just have a Snickers. Yeah. That's it. But that's why the camera adds 100 pounds. The camera and my diet. Um, but it's called like True Vonnie Olibar, Coconut Cashew. Have you tried it? No, and I know. But she loves it.
SPEAKER_00She loves it. Well, I mean, Heather's a little particular with her foods, right? Yeah, she got a sensitive palate. Yeah, so if she likes it, I'm thinking I'm not a big coconut guy though.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't, and there's probably other flavors, but I just don't anyway. Let's look at my why this this job, I'm not-I didn't mean to criticize my wife's favorite thing. So I thought that's not what we're here to do. That's why I asked her what her favorite things was, and that's was one of them. So that's good.
SPEAKER_00So that could be a stocking stuffer for her. Susie has, again, we are similar. I have these pants from Target. Yeah. She she has some joggers, some yoga joggers that she likes that are like called crazy yoga joggers. Oh. And she calls them her oulus. So it's a di it's not the same brand as I get from the Target, I don't think. Yeah, I mean, but she loves them. Okay. And uh maybe uh some of the other ladies out there like them too that don't want to drop $120 on Lulus. Listen, that link is gonna be there.
SPEAKER_01It will be there. It will be there. Favorite things. You know something else that Heather shared, which would she's it's true. It's it's she loves getting shirts and sweatshirts from American Giant. Are you familiar with American Giant? Now I don't mean to be this guy, but when she told me it was American Giant, and I'm familiar with it because I've got her these for Christmas before her birthday. Is that really the best marketing name? No, I again I don't mean to criticize them, like American Giant. It's like is that equivalent to the dress barn? I mean, do people want to go to a place to buy a dress that is called a barn? I don't really know how that works. But American Giant, so I that's not a it just made me think about that. That's again, why am I criticizing everything?
SPEAKER_00Jeez, I gotta really give you some things she enjoys. Some favorite things. Next thing you know, you're talking speaking ill of it. I'm such a jerk. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I gotta move to something that I like so I can so I can um uh oh I got it right here. I got it right here. Bose.
SPEAKER_00What? Yeah, guess what? What? That's on my list. Are you kidding me? No, look at that. We are brothers. Bose headphones. I see it. But yours, may I? Please. Thank you. Of course. Because yours came in a little bit different package.
SPEAKER_01Well, okay. Are yours? I think there's like different sizes. But they almost look identical.
SPEAKER_00Because they're they've got over-ear and on ear. Well, I got I just so as I mentioned earlier, yeah, Stratford is in Africa right now. Yeah. I have I have some similar to this that I sent with him. Oh, smart. What does that mean? I'm out headphones. Uh-huh. So I bought some new ones. Same thing, just a little bit different color. These, first of all, did you know that um Apple has their new over-the-air AirPods out? Really? No, I did not look at it. But they're like $500. I mean, they're they're not super cheap. And I got my I should probably look it up right now because I'm not 100% sure what they cost, but they weren't they weren't more than $200. Really? And they are awesome. Now yours, yours fold though. Yeah, they go right in here. Mine, mine, it goes in the package just like that. And the thing is a little bit wider than this. But they are wireless, they go over the air. I I'll walk the dog with them in the cold weather and it keeps my ear. Like I got earmuffs.
SPEAKER_01Um, let me share one favorite thing about this. Um, I'm gonna find them. I actually just uh last this last weekend I went to see my brother in California for his 50th birthday party. My sister and I actually went down. It was we had a great time, a lot of fun. But I took these on the plane with me because I was watching movies. But I'm gonna just very dramatically demonstrate one of the best things about these things. So here we go. You better learn how to read lips. Can't hear a dang thing. Noise cancelling, brother. Noise cancelling.
SPEAKER_00Are yours noise canceling? I think they're probably, I'm sure they are. But I I think those might be the little bit more expensive ones because I know they have some different ones. I love them. And it's not like I have tried those and tried the Apple ones, and so I hear Sony makes an unbelievable one. Yes. But all I can tell you is my Bose ones are fantastic. I love these, and they they're very comfortable on the air. Yeah, they've just they've been really good. What I'd like to try to find is my orders. Yes. And I'll get you.
SPEAKER_01And we're actually, while you're looking for that, like we are actually uh we're taking a family trip for Thanksgiving, and these are gonna be my best friend on that plane. Oh, for sure. Um, on the plane to California. I mean, I was a little bit dramatic about the noise cancelling because I can't hear a few things, but there was first of all, this is completely fine. There was a baby that was sad on the plane. Listen, I have traveled with kids that are sad and it's fine, but it's nice to have this.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. These currently on Amazon are 35% off. Wow. $149. That's a that's the out the door price? $149? Yeah, that's cheap. I have no idea what these cost. For these, it's awesome. And I and they have them in black and this this kind of cool white one is one of the ones I just got. That's nice. Yeah. That's problem is now Griff's stealing them. Yeah. But you just have to get you gotta get your kids your own stuff. That's all there's to it. Well, Griffey's been asking for those those Apple AirPods over the ears. Oh, yeah. So we look them up and we're like, $550? Can they be that much better?
SPEAKER_01Uh maybe. We should try them out. Because that that actually, along the scenes, Heather put that on uh her favorites as well. She loves the AirPod Pros. Yeah, the they go more inside your ear. I've I've struggled with that. Yeah, I don't know. Um, maybe I've just got real delicate ears. I don't know. Really, really call that cauliflower. Yeah, but she loves them. And I see people, um, I see people all the time with those sometimes think something that would be appealing to me with the AirPod Pros, or or any of those, they just have one in. So, like if you're maybe you you you kind of want to be listening, but yet you can do other things, it's kind of nice to have that.
SPEAKER_00Or just turn it down a little bit. You can I mean I uh I love my AirPods. I that's what I mow the lawn with. And in fact, when you call, I was walking the dog tonight, didn't have the over-the-air ones, but I had those on just doot doot and you talk and you can just talk on the phone. I need to use the phone. But you know, did you know that those bows you can talk on the phone on those things? Oh, I did. Mine do. If you called me, I can just do and answer the phone. And you can turn them, you can turn volume up and down on those, which you can't do on my AirPods.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So the volume and you can skip the song too on on those. I foresee a day where everybody just simply wears those all the time. All the time. That that sounds like us.
SPEAKER_01What else you got down that? I actually only have Rain Drops on Roses and Whiskers on Kittens? These are a few of my favorite things. I love Julie Andrews is one of my favorite things. Is she still with us? Yes. Who just died? Hmm.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01It wasn't her. Um her and Carol Burnett, two of my favorites. I got a little crush on Carol Burnett. Put it on your list. Put it on the list. Really? Carol Burnett? I just I just love Carol Burnett. So I actually saw her live like this. So it's her personality. It's her personality.
SPEAKER_00Okay. That's fine.
SPEAKER_01I saw her in I saw her live less than a year. This is getting long. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00This is Carol Burnett. I did not think I'd hear that one on your crush lip.
SPEAKER_01That's kind of a small towns thing because I remember growing up watching the Carol Burnett show.
SPEAKER_00I like how Hot Lips Hoolahan is on here, too. And Joe from The Facts Alive. Yeah. You didn't go with the you you went with them, the uh Tomboy. Well, I didn't. I went with the brunette. It was either gonna be a brunette or a redhead.
SPEAKER_01What about Blair? She's blonde. You know what? She's cute. She is cute, but she's just a little, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00There's a little Susie vibe going there, if you ask me.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, yes, I can see the but not from a personality standpoint because Susie is kind. I don't think Blair. Blair was a little bit kind. I do have one. You I got a big one.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'm enjoying yours more than I'm enjoying mine.
SPEAKER_01This is something that's so. I saw. Well, anyways. Just let's.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. What are you a six? It's a snake. Look at that. Don't you remember those from being one of two? Yeah. I mean, just after the Rubik's Cube thing, these kind of came out.
SPEAKER_01Because one thing that you know about me, Dave, is that I am a sucker for nostalgia. Yes, you are. You know, I mean, in fact, if we were to look around this office, I've got some vinyl, you know, I've got some records that I love. I've got a whole set of books that's called uh Power Tunes, you know, the power of positive thinking. And the and I I I had those as a kid in my elementary school, and it was just so so nostalgia, I love it. But I saw this, where was I where did I see this? What did you do at Walmart? You just play, exactly what you're doing. You just fiddle. You fiddle. This is actually what I would call the very first um fidget spinner. Fidget spinner. Because you just, you know, it's fun because you fiddle. You make so it's not like you're they're you're trying to like get all the colors. No, but along the same lines, do you remember that you would actually buy this and it would be in a kind of almost like a ball, like a popcorn ball. It could smell so sweet. So sweet. I could never figure out how to get it back into that. You know, you start down here. So maybe there is like a goal, like an end game. I think there could be a goal, but like I've made pretty cool things with that. In fact, I made a pair of glasses with this the other day. Wish I could remember how to do it. Gone, it's left me. You could probably you could probably YouTube that. I love this thing though. And I so I again I saw it, I think it was just at Walmart. No idea. I bought it. I bought it. Had to have it. Speaking of, you know how I went to my brother's birthday party? Yeah. He has, he's worse than I am about this type of stuff. He has a room that's he refers to it as his toy room. He's 50 years old. Well, he's got Batman toys in there. Really? Um, like he had like all Slinky? Oh, I'm sure. Probably a slinky. One of my favorite toys growing up, but I had a little Ryobi robot. Like, that sucker was so awesome.
SPEAKER_00Those are awesome. Did you ever have that little I think like Nako football game? It's but it's all it is is little red lines and it and you get tackled all day. That thing is awesome. Did you have one as a kid? There might be one kicking around my house somewhere right now.
SPEAKER_01You ought to check it out. Probably worth something. Yeah, because I like listen, I'll buy this on eBay. I mean, I just I love these things so much. Like I love nostalgic toys. So I it's so you know speaking of toys, there's I'll I'll give one last one.
SPEAKER_00Oh, and actually, sorry, I thought I got two more as well after you. Okay. I don't mean to be so bossy. No, it's good. It's good, it's good, it's good. It's fine, it's fine. Well, actually, I asked um my daughter Maya has a satin pillowcase that she absolutely loves. Okay. So if people are looking for a pillowcase, we could throw that on there. We'll throw it on there. Do you know where you get that at? No. We'll find it. Okay, we'll find it. I would imagine that she and Susie know exactly where it is. Absolutely. And then every year around this time of year, Susie buys an advent calendar that's a Lego advent calendar.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_00And so you open it, and you there's a little tiny thing that you would build for that particular day. So I know we've got a bunch of Harry Potter ones. Uh, there's an Avengers one that my son has a little liked. And so if if my kids like it, maybe some other kids like it. Susie will throw up, we'll get that link for you. That's kind of cool. That's fun. I'm a big fan. And it's all through, obviously, through the year, because you you're open them up, or not through the year, through the holidays. The holiday season. And so you open up through December, and there's a little thing for the kids to build, and kind of fun.
SPEAKER_01Listen, I realize, and uh again, we're not we're doing this for fun. It's kind of fun to talk about our favorite things, but you know, we're not gonna make uh we're not doing this for the for the affiliate marketing, but it's fun to just it it's fun to know what you guys like to do in your family. I didn't know that about the advent camera, so that's kind of fun. Um, but I do have two more things that I that I would be remiss. Well, I'd hate for you to be remiss. I don't want to be remiss, buddy. First of all, and I'll say it right here, my Adams shoes. I probably could have cleaned them up a little bit. Those are Adams. A T O M S. A T? Yeah. O M S.
SPEAKER_00I would have gone A-D-A-M-S.
SPEAKER_01I know, like almost like the guy who was named Adam that invented them. Yeah. They're a slip-on shoe. I mean, not like a slip-on shoe, but they they always stay tied. They are so comfortable. I I mean I have become a simple man in my clothing. I wear Adams, I wear Lulus, and I really just like a black tee.
SPEAKER_00Well, you look great. I feel great, thanks. Um, if if we're gonna talk about shoes, I did write Cole Hahn's down here. Oh, you have to do it. Because I have a strong shoe guy. I'm I enjoy the I I like because we're we're working men. Yes. I mean, it's it's not like I can run around in basketball shoes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I can't even wear my Adams to work all the time.
SPEAKER_00I you know But Cole Hahn, the the the soul on those is a Nike soul. And it is so if you like to I actually the dog started running the other day while I was walking him. Well, I had to run. Of course you did. And I'm like, I could run in these things. So maybe I should put some of the different pairs that I like on that thing. And if you're looking for your husband for a pair of shoes for Christmas, get them. Bingo! But I have to say this with Kohl Hon, you gotta go a half a size smaller than what you normally like. Oh, really? They run big.
SPEAKER_01Well, that actually makes a lot of sense because um with your help, my sweet wife. Are they too big? They're good question. They're they're bigger than I normally get, but they're still very, very comfortable.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, but I would I love them. Those are cool looking. Those those are kind of the wingtip look, but then with the with the white sole. Yeah, they're cool.
SPEAKER_01And they are, I will say this, for brand new shoes, like um, I didn't even feel like I needed to break them in.
SPEAKER_00They were just comfortable. Yeah, and I'm gonna say something else, is that pair, because I have the same pair, yeah, um, not as comfortable as the other ones. Really? Bold statements. But it's bold, because those are comfortable, but they're not as comfortable as the other ones.
SPEAKER_01When I was in grade school at Grouse Crick, um, if you got new shoes, uh you got to go up to the front of the class. Really? Through kindergarten through fourth grade in the little room, and then everybody would sing to you the new shoe song. What's the new shoe song? Uh you you would you would just have to pick the the basic color and be like, Dave's got new shoes, pretty new black shoes. And I think that's it. Just gotta remember the rest of them. There's gotta be more to that. There has to be more to it. I'm gonna ask my teacher, Carol. That's just like row, row, row your boat. That's it. But I just remember, I can still remember marching out to the front of the room. So excited. Probably with my kangaroo shoes. Did you ever have any kangaroo shoes?
SPEAKER_00I wasn't I would have liked some. Okay. Where the didn't you have a little pouch that you could put your change in there? Maybe put your change in there. And it's more than a penny for the loafer.
SPEAKER_01How much is that margin down with the colour? Let me let me go ahead. Let me let me get that.
SPEAKER_00Pack all my my silver. Keep my silver in there. Everybody else is walking around with a penny in their loafer, and you've got like all sorts of changes.
SPEAKER_01I got like dollars. Dollars. Like a dollar for days. I have sat here and played with this. I should have started with this so they could have just fidgeted this for the couple of things. Unless it's very distracting to our walk. I don't even know. I love it. Um, oh, I again, one of my favorite things of all time, because I started thinking about this. What are things that I use practically every day? No, I don't use the bows every day, but I use this stuff every day. Yeah. But are you a screwdriver? Sold. I think those are Stanley's. I don't, anyways, that's another story. Um, are you familiar with Audible? It's like it's it's like it's like a they just you listen to books. Yeah. I think it's a actually I think it's an Amazon company. I think Amazon bought it several years ago. But I love that it's a subscription service, so I know sometimes that can be a bit of a turnoff, but like I think I pay like $12 or $15 a month, and that gets me one credit, which gets me basically one book. And then you have the I've got this whole library, because I've had it for several years now. I've got a whole library of books. I I love to read and I read a lot, but I also when I drive, I prefer to just listen to books. Oh, me too.
SPEAKER_00I listen to podcasts and books.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I don't listen to a lot of mus I mean and I mean I love music, but I don't listen to it as much as I used to because I I just love to listen to books. So Audible.com, and I think it'll take you, it's an Amazon company, but it is awesome. That's cool. Some books like like the whole Harry Potter, the the whole Harry Potter series, which I love, like they the the narrator.
SPEAKER_00Jim Dale's the yeah, Jim Dale is unbelievable in those things. I will say this the very first time I uh this was when I got books on CD. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. And I I started listening, I'm like, I don't know. But then you start kind of getting into it. He's amazing. He is amazing. Like he can he uses a different voice for all the characters, yeah. And so he doesn't even have to see if I mean he's reading the book, so it would say something like said Ron or said Harry. You he doesn't even need to because you know who it is based on the voice he gives you.
SPEAKER_01So impressive. And it enhances and it it's funny because when you go to Audible, like you can judge and rate the narrator, the content, the story. I mean, you can judge all those things, and so it's pretty easy to find a great book uh with a lot of good reviews and things of that nature, but the narrator makes a huge difference.
SPEAKER_00You know one other one that I listened to that had really good it was multiple people reading it, is um Ender's Game. I listened to that based off of your recommendations. Great. It was fantastic. And and those and then those guys also read the parallel novel, which is called Ender's Shadow. And so if you're looking for books for I'd say anybody 15 and up, really 16 and up, Ender's Game.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I would agree with that one. I haven't read the other, but I really enjoyed it. Enders Game and Ender's Shadow are fantastic. And it's sci-fi, right? Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I really enjoy it. I don't know if sci-fi, but I really liked it. Um didn't you have one more?
unknownThat's it.
SPEAKER_01I'm pretty much done too. But I got a lot of favorite things. So again, smalltownsfavorites.com. Yep. Um, and we'll put these links uh in Instagram and Facebook and whatnot, but or you can even go to our website. A lot of times people are just listening at the website. Did you know that? No. And and uh which is smalltownspodcast.com, um, or on our new YouTube channel. Pretty excited about that. How do people find our YouTube channel? I I you know I don't know. I think it's probably through uh just through the internet. It's out there, it's out there somewhere, it's out there, but um some favorite things smalltownsfavorites.com. Check out all these things again. It's kind of fun to do.
SPEAKER_00So you know what else is my favorite? Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving. Yes, and it's coming up. In fact, this will probably be the last pod to be posted before Thanksgiving, right? I think so. Makes me feel like we need to do maybe let's do a post-Thanksgiving one as well, because that's a big deal. Uh and we can let everybody know how the turkey's turned out. Yeah, all I know is I got two of them in my freezer right now, and I think I need a third. I kid you not, buddy.
SPEAKER_01This is why I love this podcast as we as we talk about different things, because now you have said something, and I realize that, oh, we're going long on time here. But I thought of something, I thought of you today because I saw on Facebook, one of my friends on Facebook posted this. I kid you not. In fact, I thought it was you playing a joke on Facebook. She said, Does anybody in Facebook land some like does anybody here know how to spatch cock a turkey? Give me a call. That's what I thought I would call my friend Dave.
SPEAKER_00I don't have good kitchen shears, yeah, but I do have some tree pruners that you just gotta clean off really well. That's so rednecked, I love it. But the whole concept, isn't it, to just like like almost like spatch cock it.
SPEAKER_01Like you just you flatten that bird.
SPEAKER_00Now that we have video camera, I'm just yeah, you gotta you cut out the backboard and you open it up and you gotta give it one of these. Clear! And then you just you flatten it out and it cooks evenly and it cooks faster. That is what everybody that commented on her on her thread said. You have to spatchcock and you have to brine. And after the and I don't even care how you brine.
SPEAKER_01Do you would you spatchcock it even if you didn't put it in your smoker? Yeah, absolutely. Okay, because I've never spatchcocked, but I am a big believer of the brine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, 100% brine, 100% spatchcock. Okay, and so Maya, my daughter likes the the the flavor of more of a roasted old school grandma's turkey. Okay. Which is good, but it's not as good as what I'm doing.
SPEAKER_01No, because the problem with those you get them dry.
SPEAKER_00On that smoker is so good. Yeah. Um, but if you brine, you can still you can still roast it.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's what I always do. I just because I have not smoked a turkey yet, and I haven't spatchcocked one either. Today, the year, this is the year. This is the year. Of course, I'm gonna be in Florida, but we'll see. But I we Next year's the year. Next year's the year. We brine it. It's uh it's a uh recipe that I got from Alton Brown, big fan of him. Yeah. Goody. He's a scientist, scientist, and I love Goodyeats. My kids think it's terrible. I love it.
SPEAKER_00He's a scientist, he's trying to tell us how to do it.
SPEAKER_01It's in the science. Yeah, you you you brine that bird, and it it's the best bird you'll ever have.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so good. So if we don't get to talk to our listeners before Thanksgiving, enjoy your Thanksgiving. It's the greatest day of the year, if you ask me. Um, and then we'll move right into the holidays, should be a lot of fun. All right, uh, smalltownsfavorites.com.
SPEAKER_01Dave, you're one of my favorites.
SPEAKER_00Thanks, buddy. Thanks again, folks, for listening to another episode of the Small Towns Podcast. We're pretty sure we've changed your life for the better. If not, well, we'll try again next time.
